Chapter 23 Devine light

1577 Words
Alissa's POV We stood in the center of the room as the ministers scrutinized us. We stayed quiet and we never spoke unless we were spoken to. Alvern had told them what he knew and they listened keenly. Johanna also get her chance to spoke and she revealed even more about what happened the day we were born. "So your telling us that there was an intruder in the castle all those years ago?" A woman with brown hair and glasses asked. "Yes." She reconfirms and they all gasped in disbelief. "That means there might be intruders among us now." A fat man said looking scared. "I doubt any of the ministers could be the intruder since they are all royalty or closely connected to the royal family." Lord Alvern argues. "How are we sure they are tell the truth. This could easy well be trick, so Alvern can take over the castle." "That is hard to believe, when he was presented with the opportunity to become king he turned it down." The brown haired woman defends him. "She makes a good point." The fat man agrees. The king watched their exchange impatiently, not says a word but listening to what they had to say. "I assure you all that I have no intention of becoming king, I am content with my life as is and I do not wish to take what my oldest friend holds dear." Alven starts to speak. "But there is no denying that these two girls are the daughters of Alice. They look exactly like her and this one...." he pauses to look at me the way a father would look at a child he was proud of. "She has the Devine Light." He says. "Impossible." "That is ridiculous!" "There is no denying it! We all saw her use it!" He raises his voice to quiet her down. "Is the true your majesty?" A slender old guys asks. "How can you be so sure that the power she has is the devin light?" The kings asks with a smirk. "I felt it." "I felt it." "I felt it." "I felt it." Julia, Alison, Johanna and Celia says stepping forward. "You were all there, when she used it?" "Yes." They answer in unison. "She used it to safe my life." Alison speaks up on my behalf. "That's incredible." The brown haired woman says. "Let's not forget she almost killed my daughter with it." The king interjects harshly. "Your majesty if I may, please remember your daughter tried to kill Alison first. Alissa was only defending her dear twin sister." Julia says looking at him with a blank expression. "Be quiet you guardian. You have no right to speak to me." "Forgive me your grace." "If she has the Devine light then what kind of powers does the other one possess?" The head minister finally spoke. He has been quite for the duration of this meeting, he watched everyone and everything with keen eyes, his face void of emotion. But something told he he was doing more than watching and listening. "We don't know yet." Alvern says. He gazes at her as if he was gazing into her soul then his gaze quickly shifted to me. "Show me." Is all he says and I know what to do. I take a few steps forward then hold out my hand. I close my eyes and take a deep breath then I focused on summoning my power but nothing happened. "Its not working." I whisper. "I told you she doesn't have it." The king interjects smirking. "Be quiet." The head minister says with out giving him a glance, his eyes solely trained on me. "Show me." He repeats in a commanding voice. I give it a try again but nothing happens. "I- I can't." "So you can't control it." He says showing emotion for the first time, but it wasn't one I wanted to see. The emotion he showed was disappoint. For some reason it made me angry, why was he the disappointed. And why was he disappointed in me? I fisted my palms and stepped back to stand beside Alison. "Ate you okay." She asks resting her hand on my shoulder. "I'm fine." I say shrugging off her hand. "Are you sure this one doesn't have any special abilities?" He nods to Alsion as he spoke. "Not that we know of." Lord Alvern answers. "How about you? Have you done anything out of the ordinary?" He asks her, she thinks about it carefully before a gasp escaped her. She made eye contact with me and I know she was thinking about our twin telepathy. But we promised to keep it a secret. "No." She says facing him with a black mask. "Don't lie to me, it is not wise." He raises an eyebrow at her. I nod at her letting her know it's okay of she wants to tell him. "We have twin telepathy." "Excuse me?" The ministers aks. "I saw what Alissa was thinking and I read her mind, once." "Hmmmm, interesting. Can you control this telepathy at will?" "No, it only happened once." "I see." He says leaning back and studying us. "So the both of you don't have control of your powers." The king maximizes on that detail, trying to make us look useless. I clench my fist tighter, trying to keep my anger at him in control. As I glared shamelessly at him. "It is disappointing, I must say." The head minister starts to rant. "One daughter of the queen can't control her powers, while the other has no power." His gaze shifts between us as he spoke. "Your mother must be so disappointed." "That's enough." I grit out, feeling my anger rise. "Do you have any idea what we have been through?" I aks feeling frustrated. "I heard." He simply says. "You heard?" I scoff, "you heard, you didn't have to go through any of it, you didn't have to ensure any of it. You did feel what we felt or lost what we lost. So you don't get to be disappointed." "Your hands." The minister says and I shift my gaze to him, a smirk slowly took over his features. "What?" "Your hands are glowing." He says the smirk never turning into an amused smile. I looked down at my palms and they were actually glowing. "You did it!" Alison exclaims. Now I get it. He was intentionally provoking me to see if my emotions would make my powers react. "I would like to have a discussion with the ministes before we make a final decision." He says scribbling down something in a book. "Privately." He adds and two gaurds come in to lead us out of the room. A maid was waiting for us outside, she led us to a room that seemed like a waiting room. Zian and Zane where in it waiting for us. "Are you two okay?" Zane asks, as they both came over to hug is. "Yes we're fine." Alison answers and I realize that my hands had stop glowing without me noticing. "Where's our father?" "He's in there with them," "discussing what to do with us." Alison finished my sentence for me. "Stay out of my head." Say rolling my eyes at her. " I wasn't!" She defends herself. "You two know its pretty normal for twins to finish each others sentences right?" Zian aks as we all take a seat. We heard the clearing of throat and we turn to look at Celia and Julia. "We would like to formally thank you." Julia brings to speak. "For protecting the girls for us."Celia finished the sentence and they both bowed. "It was our pleasure." Zian says nodding at them. "And thank you for trusting us." Zane added. They nodded and went back outside. "Why did they leave?" I aks. "They're guarding the door." Zian says in a duh tone. "How come you didn't tell us about that power of yours?" Zane asks me excitedly. "I didn't know I had it." I shrug my shoulders as i spoke. I tought that time ago the lake was a fluke. "It wasn't." Alison says running my shoulder. Did I say that out loud? "What wasn't?" Zane asks her. "You!" Say accusingly. "s**t, I didn't mean to!" "Does it only work one way?" "I don't know?" "What are you two going on about." Zian asks in a weird tone but we avoid him. "Did we miss something?" Zane adds. "Let try that when we're alone." I suggest. "Good idea." She agrees. "No you didn't miss anything." I answer Zane's question. "You wouldn't understand." Alison answers Zian question. "This is getting rather weird." Zane comments. "I'd say." His older brother agrees. We stay quiet after that, the reality of our situation fully taking over our collective toughts. I silently gaze at my palms and my mind drifted back to what they called my power. The devine light. What is the devine light, and why did someone like me get it? What was this power meant to do. But the most important question was, why didn't Alison get any? Was she powerless? I suddenly started to feel powerless and out of place. Like I wanted hide in a dark corner cry, where no one could see me My heart started to ache with an empty feeling and my eyes pricked with tears, then I realized these feelings.... ......weren't mine.
