Sindy The truck jolted over another rut in the dirt road, the whole cab rattling like it might shake apart at any moment. I clutched the heavy furs closer around me, burrowing into their warmth as if they could protect me from the cold pressing in through the thin glass. The headlights ahead stretched weakly into the forest, twin beams swallowed by shadows that seemed endless, alive even. The deeper we went, the more I felt the darkness watching me.
