Kinza swatted the seventeenth branch out of her face, projecting her frustration at the leaves. It did nothing to fend off the swarm of mosquitos that were descending on her like a free buffet. She growled in annoyance as she smacked one that had landed on the side of her neck, and two more took its place. “What did the forest ever do to you?” Zaid muttered from further down the path. Calling it a path was a stretch since Kinza was only following behind Zaid, who was wandering in seemingly random directions down the mountain. “The a***e is mutual,” she replied, pulling out another leaf from her hair.
