Chapter 4 – The Night It Happened

The wind whispered softly through the trees. My fingers trembled slightly in his, but I didn’t let go. Knoxx brought me to an old cabin near the lake — he said it was a friend’s place. Quiet. Private. Beautiful in a lonely kind of way. There were no loud parties. No teammates. No noise. Just us. Just the way I wanted it. I sat on the edge of the couch as he made hot chocolate in the tiny kitchen, my eyes tracing every detail — the way his hoodie hung loose, the curve of his back, the way he hummed quietly like he didn’t have a care in the world. “I still can’t believe you said yes to tonight,” he said, handing me the mug. I smiled, looking down at the steam rising between my fingers. “Why?” He sat beside me, a little closer than before. “You don’t say much at school. Always so quiet. It’s like… you don’t let anyone in.” I took a sip. “Maybe I was just waiting for the right person.” Our eyes met. And I swear, I saw something shift in his. He leaned in slowly, like he was giving me time to change my mind. His breath touched mine. His hand gently cupped my cheek. “Tell me to stop,” he whispered, “and I will.” But I didn’t. I tilted my head and met his lips halfway. And just like that, everything around us faded. ⸻ We moved together, soft and slow. His lips against my skin made my stomach flutter in ways I never imagined. His hands traveled gently, asking permission with every touch. “Are you sure?” he asked again, even as his voice trembled with need. I nodded. “I want this,” I said. “I want you.” Clothes slipped to the floor like falling leaves. My heart beat so loudly, I thought it might explode. When he entered me, I winced — not from pain alone, but from everything. From fear. From longing. From love I hadn’t said out loud yet. And still… I didn’t regret it. Not then. Because in that moment, under soft blankets and even softer lies, I believed I was his. I believed it was real. I believed that Knoxx Montero saw me — not as a prize, not as a challenge, but as a girl worth loving. Afterward, we lay tangled together in silence. He kissed my forehead. Held me close. I thought maybe this was the beginning of something beautiful. I had no idea it was already the end.
