When you first spawn build a dirt tower and look at your surroundings there might be forests for wood, The ocean, you might even be on a big giant island!!! Do not go straight to the mountains as the goats or a goat might dash to you and knock you all the way off the mountain and... Well you might die from falling from high place/mountain.
Make a crafting table and then make some wooden tools then mine in a stair case if you do find a cave please look out by looking up and down for stalagmites and stalagtites! If you are at an edge of a cave look down for stalagmites even though you are like 4 blocks above the stalagmites because you can die easily from falling on a stalagmites
