THE LAST STARBORN Chapter One: The Boy Who Heard the Stars The stars were disappearing. Kael Agyeman noticed it at exactly 2:17 in the morning. He stood alone on the rooftop of his apartment building in New Accra, staring at the polluted sky. Below him, the futuristic city never slept. Flying vehicles moved between enormous towers, holographic advertisements floated above crowded streets, and delivery drones carried packages through the neon-lit skyline. New Accra looked beautiful from above. But Kael knew what existed beneath the lights. Workers, mechanics, merchants, miners—ordinary people struggling to survive while powerful corporations controlled most of the city. People like him. Kael sighed and leaned against the railing. “Another beautiful night in paradise.” Then a star disappeared. Kael frowned. Another vanished. Then another. He looked carefully at the sky. There were no clouds. One by one, the stars disappeared until the entire sky became completely black. Kael’s heart began pounding. “What the hell?” For several seconds, nothing changed. The city continued functioning normally. Vehicles flew overhead. Advertisements flashed. Music played somewhere below. Nobody seemed to notice. Then Kael heard a voice. Not from the rooftop. Not from a communication device. The voice came from inside his head. KAEL. He froze. “Who’s there?” Silence. Then— FIND THE LIGHT. Kael stumbled backward and fell hard against the rooftop. “What is happening?” Suddenly, his left wrist began burning. Kael grabbed it and screamed. A bright blue light appeared beneath his skin. Glowing lines moved across his wrist like liquid and formed a strange symbol—a circle surrounded by six sharp points with a star at its center. The symbol became brighter. Then disappeared. Kael stared at his wrist. There was no wound. Nothing. He looked toward the sky. The stars had returned. He stood there trembling. Something impossible had just happened. And somehow, he knew his life would never be normal again. ⸻
