Mia sat at her desk, sipping her coffee and staring at the financial records on her screen. She had been going over the numbers for hours, but something just didn't add up.
As the new accounting manager at Blackwood Industries, Mia was determined to make a good impression. She had been hired to review the company's financial records and identify any discrepancies. And boy, had she found one.
A small amount of money, $10,000 to be exact, had been transferred from the company's main account to a mysterious subsidiary account. The problem was, Mia couldn't find any record of the subsidiary account existing.
She frowned, tapping her pen on the desk. This was weird. She had worked with financial records for years, and she had never seen anything like this.
Mia decided to dig deeper. She started by reviewing the company's organizational chart, looking for any mention of the mysterious subsidiary. But there was nothing.
Next, she tried searching the company's database for any records of the subsidiary. Again, nothing.
Mia was starting to get frustrated. She knew she had found something important, but she couldn't quite put her finger on what it was.
Just as she was about to give up, her phone rang. It was Julian Blackwood, the CEO of Blackwood Industries.
"Mia, I hear you're making good progress on the financial review," he said, his voice deep and smooth.
Mia felt a flutter in her chest. She had met Julian briefly when she first started working at the company, and she had been impressed by his charisma and confidence.
"Yes, Julian," she replied, trying to sound professional. "I've found a discrepancy in the financial records that I'm trying to track down."
There was a pause on the other end of the line. "I see," Julian said finally. "Can you tell me more about the discrepancy?"
Mia hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. But something about Julian's tone put her at ease. "It looks like a small amount of money was transferred to a subsidiary account that doesn't exist," she explained.
Julian's voice was thoughtful. "I think I know what you might be referring to," he said. "Can you come to my office and we'll discuss it further?"
Mia felt a surge of excitement. She had a feeling that she was on the verge of uncovering something big.
"I'll be right there," she said, hanging up the phone and gathering her things.
As she made her way to Julian's office, Mia couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation. What was Julian going to tell her? And what did he know about the mysterious discrepancy?
She pushed open the door to Julian's office and was immediately struck by the stunning view of the city skyline. Julian was standing behind his desk, his eyes fixed intently on her.
"Ah, Mia," he said, smiling. "Thank you for coming. I think we have a lot to discuss."
