Chapter 10

510 Words
Saviyah Monday morning came very quick, much to my dismay. I wanted to cry just by hearing my alarm, but I just begrudgingly began getting ready. As I made my way downstairs my I hear sniffles. That's weird. Could it be mom? I was not ready for what I saw. My mom hugging another man but not just any man my father. My dead father I guess he can't be dead because, is in the kitchen embracing my mother. They didn't hear me coming down the stairs. "Dad" I couldn't even recognise my own voice. Is this real? Is he real? They pull apart and the sight I see is unreal. It's really him. A million questions run through my head. I look from him to my mom, who's still softly crying. "Sweetie, look at how grown you've become." All those nights I cried thinking I'd never hear that voice again. I can't help the tears streaming down my eye's. I want to run into his arms but my feet are glue no the spot. He slowly makes his way towards me almost as if he's afraid I'll run away. When he reaches me I'm engulfed in the warmest hug ever. I try to pull back as I'm afraid to wet his jacket. But he objects. He whispers word of endearment they are all laced with love and longing. He pulls back and I look into his eyes which are now filled with tears. He looks exactly the same just with a beard to make a lumberjack jealous and eye bags. The questions are back. I want to know how is he here when we had a whole funeral for him. He seems to sense this. "I'll explain everything when you come back from school." "But.." "But nothing." He interjects. I take a deep breath trying to calm myself. How will I even concentrate at school with all the questions. I give my mother a pleading look to not let my go to school. But she agrees with my dad. "Go to school baby. He'll be here when you get back." She reassures me. "You promise that you won't leave?" The question is loaded with meaning. "I promise, sweetie." He says with a smile. "OK" Mother says making her way to me. She wipes the wetness from my cheeks and starts fussing with my clothes. "Hurry the bus I probably on its way." I forgot all about that. I check my phone and as expected the bus has left me. "I'll ask Ayana to pick me up." "Won't she have an issue? " My mother asks. "Beacuse I can take you." "No it's fine, she won't mind." My dad clears his throat. "Uuhm, Saviyah don't tell anyone that I'm back." That is a weird request but I nod my head. "You Christian Adams better be here when I come back." I light-heartedly joke he always hated it when I used his real name. I hope things will be normal now, but I don't think I know what normal is anymore.
