Chapter 3

I get ready for my first class, my absolute favourite. Not even this mornings ordeal can make me hate being in this class. I make my way to the Physical Sciences class. I'm the only one there, no surprise there. The bell will ring in 15 minutes and I'll get myself ready for class in the mean time. Today we are starting with the chemistry since we are done with physics already. And I couldn't be more happier. As I'm writing my notes the bell rings. Well there goes my peace. I quickly pack my notes in my bag, and move to my usual seat and that is at the back. I prefer the back because I'm easily ignored. As the students swarm in the class, I can't help but crane my neck to see if my best-friend Ayana has arrived. I won't be surprised if she isn't here. Being late is her specialty and also the base for all our arguments. To my surprise she enters the class and her face lights up as she sees me. Highlighting her beautiful features cappuccino coloured skin, short blonde-dyed hair, deep brown eyes that look into your soul. For real you can't hide anything from her, she's very good at reading people. Today she's wearing skinny jeans, a puffer jacket and a pair of Air Force 1's. I can't help but stare at her perfect body. I know it sounds cliché, but she's got a body of a model, the type to eat anything they like without the worry of getting fat. Unlike me. As she sits next to me she gives me a kiss on the cheek. When we became friends last year, it used to freak me out. But after being around her family, I saw that the person you kiss on the cheek is someone you love and value. After I learned that I was more welcoming of the gesture. She transferred last year from South Africa. That's another reason we became friends quick, my mother is from South Africa. So we became close in no time. But with a lot of hesitation on my part. She was outgoing, loud, and confident, the total opposite of me. Did I also mention protective, yeah very protective of me. She usually deals with all of them for me. I couldn't be more thankful. "Hey Chica". She greets she's in a very good mood today. "Hey". I can't help but smile. "Guess what?" "What?" "No Yaya, you have to guess." She deadpans. I give her a blank stare. "Ok, ok, I'll tell you. Mama agreed, so we can go get piercings." I couldn't help but be excited, it's something we've both wanted for the last two months. My mother agreed after much persuasion. Now the issue was her mom, but I guess we can finally do it. I can't help but let out a mini scream. I'm so excited Lord knows we've wanted to do this for so long. But our excitement is short-lived. Mr Everard bursts into the class I can't help but chuckle. This is going to be an interesting lesson. "Ayana" "Yeah" "Do you want to go to the mall after school" I whisper. "Of course" She smiles. "Just have to go to art first" "Ok I'll wait for you" I can't help but feel like this is a dream. I have a friend a best friend who likes me as I am. I can't help but feel like high school may not be that bad.
