Chapter 29
Among the boats to join in the rescue was one commandeered by Deputy Sheriff Yates, accompanied by two uniformed constables. Concordia stayed aboard The Decoy, anxiously watching the proceedings.
Yates flashed a steely look in her direction as he climbed into the Susan D and helped haul Sir Anthony, Reese, and Decker out of the water.
She could see David struggling to get to his feet in an attempt to offer assistance, but Yates waved him back. “You’re obviously in bad shape, sir,” she heard him say. “We’ll have plenty of aid in a moment.” Thank goodness the Decoy was close enough that she could see and hear what was going on. She was sorely tempted to jump across to the Susan D and gather her husband in her arms, leaving Decker’s boat to drift.
