{Adrienne’s POV} “Know what?” I confusedly asked. Ethel looked slightly conflicted as she looked at me with eyes full of sympathy and softness. It somewhat reminded me of my Mamai when she knew that I was going through something that only I could know the answer to or cure. Then, she sighed and looked me straight in the eyes. “Twenty-six years ago, when Marietta, Oswald, and I helped a couple. We were in the woods after we buried their deceased baby when we saw a couple, bloodied and halfway through death. The man was stabbed in the back and his eyes were gone while his wife was crying. Her clothes were ripped from her, there was a stake plunged on her chest, and it was clear that she had been r*aped.” An involuntary gasp escaped my lips, and for some reason, I felt my heart tighten.
