THE COFFEE DATE

419 Words
The next morning, Asher arrived at the coffee shop early, his nerves buzzing with anticipation. He hadn't felt this way about anyone in a long time, and it was both exhilarating and terrifying. As he waited for Ember, he couldn't help but think about their conversation the night before. She was smart, witty, and had a spark that drew him in like a magnet. When Ember walked in, looking radiant in a yellow sundress, Asher's heart skipped a beat. He stood up, his eyes locked on hers, and smiled. "Hey," Ember said, her cheeks flushing slightly as she approached him. Asher pulled out her chair and helped her sit down. "Hey," he replied, his voice low and smooth. As they ordered their coffee and began to chat, Asher felt himself relaxing in Ember's presence. She was easy to talk to, and he found himself opening up to her in ways he never thought possible. But as the conversation deepened, Asher couldn't shake off the feeling that Ember was hiding something from him. He couldn't quite put his finger on it, but he sensed a vulnerability beneath her confident exterior. As they finished their coffee, Asher walked Ember out of the shop, feeling a sense of disappointment that their time together was coming to an end. But as they stood on the sidewalk, Ember turned to him and smiled. "I had a great time today," she said, her eyes sparkling. Asher's heart skipped a beat. "I had a great time too," he replied, his voice low and husky. As they stood there, the tension between them was palpable. Asher knew he wanted to kiss her, but he was hesitant to make a move. Just as he was about to lean in, Ember's phone rang, shattering the moment. She apologized and answered the call, her expression changing from relaxed to tense in an instant. As Asher watched her, he sensed that something was wrong. Ember's eyes met his, and he saw a flash of fear before she looked away. "What's wrong?" Asher asked, his voice low and concerned. Ember hesitated before responding. "It's just my brother," she said, her voice tight. "He needs my help with something." Asher's instincts told him that there was more to the story, but he didn't push the issue. Instead, he offered to walk Ember home, his protective instincts kicking in. As they walked, Asher couldn't shake off the feeling that Ember was in trouble, and he was determined to find out what was going on.
