I

We stumbled as something had hit us from the side but we were quick to regain our footing and turn instantly to see who would dare, our teeth bared and everything. There we spotted a young coyote that had our rabbit in our mouth. It gave us a quick glance before taking off with our prey. Usually we would've given chase as a means of punishment for having stolen our prey but we didn't. Judging by how it's ribs were showing, it must've been starving enough to even steal food from a wolf. Sitting on our rump, we gave a sigh. Duck it is then. Getting up, we trotted off in the general direction where the ducks would be roosting. -- Man, I hope that dumb coyot enjoyed that rabbit. I thought, having settled for a duck. It wasn't bad but the feathers were a nuisance but the run did what it was supposed to do: frustration release and getting dinner on the go. Letting out a yawn, I relax against the back of the bus seat, staring at the window, watching the lights of the street lamps go by. My mind began to slow and wander as if going into a trance. Whenever that happened, I began to think of my family back home. I wonder how my parents were doing, how my younger brother was doing and how the twins were doing despite I didn't interact with them much after they were born since I, and a few other 18 year olds, were force out of the pack. It wasn't malicious or anything but tradition by our pack. The oldest of each family would embark on their own life finding adventures and make our way into the world. Some find another pack to join. Some find a partner to settle down with their partner's pack or sometimes they return to our pack with their partners. This tradition was intended to keep the pack population under control and to make sure food wasn't scarce. If new pups were born or those that left, return with another mouth to feed, another culling was done. Like I said, not malicious, just tradition. Then you had ones like me, who just tend... To wander. A nomad style. I was 24 years old, going on 25 and yet I sometimes wonder if this is what I want to keep doing. Moving from town to town, city to city, finding jobs just to scrap by. Did I eventually want to find another pack to settle down in? Or just keep living this lifestyle? It wasn't like I was a rogue, I made my own way in my own life. I was a nomad but sometimes other packs didn't see it that way. I don't mind this nomad life. The Loba whispers in my head. I frown. Eventually, we're going to start craving for a pack. I said. It's a wolf thing. Werewolves can only be alone for so long before they start acting twitchy. I reminded her. I could feel a shrug from her in my head. True but we are different. Stronger and more capable. We can manage. I let out a sigh, not exactly arguing with her statement. It was true, we had made other wolves cower before us. Both male and female, so it made sense that we possibly could be Alpha material. Because of that, perhaps we were capable of being by ourselves longer than normal. A beta, omega and any other lower rank wolves had that itch for a pack. Alphas, not quite as much as a pack tend to form around them rather they form a pack themselves. But a new pack always meant new trouble for any other neighboring pack. Two Alphas clashing over territory and it can get dangerous. Thankfully we managed to fly under the radar of many of the Alphas who's territories I snuck into, at least that is what I like to think. I recall my Great Great Grandfather, who was our current Alpha, who knew whenever someone new, human or wolf, that came into our territory. It wasn't large, but it was enough to sustain our pack and as long as the newcomer didn't start anything my Great Great Grandfather let them be but always knew where they were at all times. It was both scary and impressive. You should call our parents. Loba's voice broke through my thoughts. It's been a while since we past contacted them. She had a point. I think the last time I called it was my younger brother's birthday and that was a couple months back. I'll think about it. I was left in silence as I glanced back out the windows of the bus again... Letting out a yawn once my destination arrived, I thanked the bus driver before hopping off and stretched, feeling my bones crack as well as my back and neck. I looked forward to getting back to my room and just sleeping. As I made my way to the motel, I heard shouting and like anyone, I turned to see a young kid who probably looked no older than 4 or 5, run down between the alleyways of the two buildings, being chased by two adult males. My eyes narrowed. Kidnapping? Or child trafficking? Does it matter? The Loba growls in my head. I can feel her desire to protect the child. Another Alpha like quality were it was our need to protect the weak. She was right though. Did we really need a reason to not help out? I was already running to where the three went. No child was about to be harmed on my watch. "Get this f*****g brat!" I heard one guy who I mentally labeled Bad Guy One with his backwards hat, who was currently trying to corner the child. He was the first one I jumped kicked at, feeling my foot connect his back hard to send him flying forward into a wall. I was not about to reign in my werewolf strength. f**k that. Bad Guy Two with his tattoos, turns to face me, snarling viciously. "Who the f**k?!" It wasn't till I saw their glowing ice blue eyes. Fuck. Vampire. Baring his fangs at me, Bad Guy Dos moved to tackle me, which I side stepped and lifted up my knee to ram I to his chest. There was no point in relying on them losing their breath as they didn't need to breathe anyways, my intent was just to cause pain and bodily harm. I delivered an uppercut to knock his head back before quickly followed by a right hook to knock his ass down. Once the two assailants were out for the moment, I looked around for the kid. If there was anything worse than kidnappers and traffickers, it was vampires who loved feeding off little kids. Spotting something or rather someone, wedged behind the wall and the dumpster, I made my way over, crouching to get eye level with the little girl as best as I could. "Hey, hey little one. You okay?" I spoke softly as if to not spook her. I reached out with a hand slowly. "Come on, we need to get--" I let out a strangled squawk as I was suddenly yanked back and tossed on the floor with a groan. I saw both vamps standing there looking none to please with me. "Let's f**k the b***h up." Snarls Bad Guy Two. Bad Guy One sniffs the air, clearly catching my scent as he suddenly grins. "But first, I wanna taste that werewolf p***y!" He lunges for me only to be met with my shoe in his face, kicking him backwards. Let. Me. Out! Loba snarls in my head, feeling her anger course through my veins like adrenaline. Wish granted! I thought, release control to her. Our body shifted with a fierce speed we had ever shifted before. Tattoo vampire was met with fangs clamping down on his face as we whipped around to attack. Violently we shook our head side to side, able to taste the hot blood spilling onto our tongue, fueling the fire and bloodlust. Just hearing them scream in pain was enough to get our blood hot. Something sharp pierced our side flank causing us to toss the other vampire to the wall, his body crumpling to the floor as we focused on the other vamp. "Die you f*****g mutt!" He had pulled out the knife he stabbed us with and made a move to stab us again but we didn't give him a chance as we opened our jaws, blood and saliva dripping as we bit into his arm, the knife dropping from his grip and violently shook our head, hearing his screams. These vampires had be low ranked as they didn't seem all that powerful. A stronger vampire would've been more of a hassle to deal with. We managed to knock Bad Guy One down and start dragging him across the floor, snarling and growling as we clamped down harder with clear intent to tear his arm off. He must've grabbed the knife with his other hand because next thing we knew, hot white pain bloomed in our shoulder. We let go with a surprise yelp, backing up to recollect ourselves. We weren't even given a breather when the second vampire tackled us from the side, wrapping his arms around our chest and started to squeeze. He was trying to break our ribcage. ENOUGH. Loba snarls viciously in our head, obviously having enough with these vampires as I was. Her rage was blinding my own consciousness though, causing a drift between the both of us. Hey... I started weakly, trying to keep a hold of myself. I couldn't lose my own consciousness or else I risked Loba going crazy in her rage, in which she would attack everything and anything with intent to kill. Hey! I tried harder, shouting but it was no use. I could feel our body moving, taste the blood in our mouth, hear the bones crunch between our teeth and hear the screams of the vampires in our ears. The rage was growing, the hunger for violence was trying to subdue me as if to keep me from interfering. There was a reason werewolves had two sides; a human and a wolf. Both balance each other to keep either in a control state. I was losing that control. I was barely clinging by now, trying to claw back for control once I noticed one of the vampires was dead and the other making a run for it. Loba was about to give chase in her bloodlust state before the sound of metal scraping caught her attention. She turns to see the kid crawling out from behind the dumpster, staring at us with wide gray eyes. No.. don't..! I yelled, sensing Loba's violent tendencies. Her body was moving forward and I was clawing desperately for control now. DON'T!! I screamed in our head as she lunged towards the little girl with her jaws wide open and canines bared. Next thing I knew, we were on fire.
