Mrs. Gob immediately fell silent, she felt slapped by Xavier’s black card.
“If you don’t accept card payments, I’ll get cash for you, Mrs. Gob. Just tell me how much do you want to sell this house? Whatever price you’ll offer, I will buy it without owing anything, including the rent bills that are in arrears for the past few months.”
“Are you playing a trick on me, young man? Now tell me whose card are you carrying? Isn’t that a card that only some of the richest people in the world have, and not just anyone has it? Or maybe your black card is fake? Don’t bully me like you’re the richest human being here, young man. I already know how poor you and your grandma are, so stop lying before I report you to the police on charges of multiple crimes.”
“Please.” Xavier challenged her.
Mrs. Gob was furious again, she was really annoyed with Xavier’s pretentious attitude. Though according to Mrs. Gob, Xavier was only a grandson from the poorest grandmother in the world.
“If you really have a lot of money, buy this house for a hundred million dollars. But if you cheat then I will not hesitate to kick you from this house and will stick your face all over the district and say that you are big liar. Now we go to the bank, we should prove who is the right one here.”
Xavier swallowed hard. Go to the bank? Will everything be okay? It was just that Xavier felt that this was also quite terrible. With him going to the bank, Xavier was afraid that maybe his card really was a toy card and everything that Xavier had just experienced was just a dream and was only Xavier’s imagination because he wanted to be rich.
“Why, Xavier? Why are you silent like a fool? Now you feel afraid of me, right? I just bluffed to take me to the bank to prove your stupid words. You are already scared like this. What if you get caught lying? So stop! Don’t do weird things anymore and apologize for lying to me.”
“Sorry, I will never do everything you want. If indeed going to the bank can solve the problem between us, then let’s go to the bank. Bring along the certificate of this house because I want to pay off buying my house again.”
“Xavier, what are you saying? Stop bragging and dreaming, let’s pack our things and go.”
Eliza—Xavier’s grandmother finally spoke up. It was just that Eliza felt that what Xavier had done was quite outrageous. Eliza knew that maybe Xavier was angry with her at this moment, or maybe he was also annoyed and disappointed. Selling the house left by the family to pay for Xavier’s college tuition, which was said to be completely free from the start, but apparently not, was not an easy thing. Eliza had been hiding this for years so that Xavier wouldn’t feel burdened and then his beloved grandson decided to drop out of college. But if everything ended up like this, what can Xavier fight for to make everything back to normal again?
“I apologized to you for selling our house without your permission. But I believe that we can still find another place to rent, so stop acting like we have a lot of money, Xavier. Enough, I’m already very embarrassed by all your behaviour. Let’s go quickly.”
“Grandma, believe me I’m not lying. If Grandma doesn’t believe me, then just wait here. I’m not forcing you to come at all. I just hope that you can calm down and don’t think about anything. I promise you that I will get this house back to our family no matter what.”
“But—”
“Trust me, Grandma.”
Eliza couldn’t help but hold her breath, she could even see Mrs Gob’s mocking laughter. Eliza finally nodded her head too, she looked back at her grandson with an expression that couldn’t be interpreted at all.
“Why are you trying to discourage your stupid grandson, Mrs. Moreno? Go ahead if your grandson wants to dream as high as a mountain. Even I can provide many facilities for him to still be able to dream. You don’t need to worry about it at all. I don’t even mind following all his imagination, to go to the bank and make a sale and purchase transaction for this house at what price earlier? One hundred million dollars! I think your grandson still hasn’t accepted reality yet.”
“Can we not talk so much and focus on everything? There are many things that I need to do and we must quickly take care of all of this correctly and properly.”
“Okay, let’s prove it. To go to the bank we just need to cross the street, right?”
“Yes.”
Now Xavier and Mrs Gob both went to the bank. Of course, after Mrs. Gob brought the house certificate and all the documents needed for the buying and selling of the house, Mrs. Gob was very sure that this would be impossible.
“Good afternoon, is there anything we can help you with, Ma’am, Sir?”
A bank employee greeted just as Mrs. Gob and Xavier arrived. Both Xavier and Mrs. Gob were reluctant to be near each other. It was clearly implied if the two of them showed such a clear attitude of disagreement.
“Excuse me, is there anything we can help you with, Ma’am?” repeated the bank employee again.
“Yes of course. This poor young man wants to take a large sum of money, and make a house sale transaction with me for one hundred million dollars.”
“What?”
The bank employee was shocked to hear that. Now Mrs. Gob was laughing while glancing sarcastically at Xavier.
“I’m sure you don’t believe it either, do you, Miss? How could a poor young man like him, who don’t even have decent clothes, who is in arrears pay the rented house suddenly saying that he wanted to buy the house he rented. I really want to laugh out loud, seeing him just makes me sick. So I brought him here to come to his senses, stop acting weird, and admit all his mistakes to make things easier. But it seems quite difficult, this young man is still so stubborn.”
“Sir, what this madam said is true. Rather than you will be more embarrassed and accused of committing a fraud, shouldn’t you follow what this madam said? If indeed you immediately confess and feel guilty, I’m sure this madam will forgive you as long as you don’t do it again.”
“If I’m still considered insane by all of you and think I’m making this up, then check my card. Look how much balance I have, because I also have to give money as a gratitude for all the things Mrs. Gob gave to my grandmother.”
