The Fall

*huff* *huff* *huff* My shallow breathing echoed on my ears. Blood pooled beneath me, a crimson patch seeping through the innocent whiteness of snow. The moon bathed my unmoving body in pity as the resounding laughter of celebration drifted from afar. ‘Has my end finally come?’ The wind breezed through the trees, swaying its leaves in a melancholic rustle. I stared up into the wide expanse of dark sky. Stars shimmering like scattered jewels with the moon being everlastingly bright. The night accompanied me while the people rejoiced, singing praises of victory and cries of relief. *chuckles* Lips straining to lift into a wry smile. No disappointment nor hatred reflected my eyes, rather it was filled with searing acceptance. The fate that has befallen me has long been determined, ‘the hero will always be the hero and so is the villain will remain to be the villain’. Truly, such a pathetic reasoning however that was what lead to my fall. A destiny filled with the pointed stares of fear and disgust toward my existence. Painting me in dark colors even before I could learn to walk and talk, a baby growing to an adult child, merely following the design fate gave him. *laughs* The laugh rumbling through my body, pain shooting up my nerves in frenzy. A familiar feeling, the child after all grew in pain and suffering of the society’s prejudice. Are their cheers for the success of their hero or was it the finality of an individual retaliating against their predetermined path. ‘Was it truly wrong for me to be looked upon normally or even accepted just like everybody else?’ A tear fell from the corner of my eye, lonely and lost in the darkness of my blood just like the child pulled away harshly from the supposed innocence in growth. Memories of hurtful words hurled at him during the age of barely understanding the people’s undisguised malice. ‘Why bring me into this world if only death awaits me at every turn?’ My eyes glaring up in uncontrolled anger before shutting close. With a shaky breath, calming my mind from boiling with existential questions. The wind brushed against my pale skin as if to soothe this poor soul, left to bear the burden of being the world’s sacrificial lamb. I smiled through the pain, finding comfort in the pure concern of nature. I opened my eyes once again, unshed tears clouding my already blurring vision. The water of sadness gushed out in waves, years of pent up emotions encased in each tear. Pure water of feelings met with the red crystalline liquid of an ending life. Finally, the life lived in agony will now come into an end. My only wish will now be granted through death. ‘Freedom and peace.’ Wanting to stop repeatedly stitching up a torn soul. Worn out by the continuous survival against the grasp of fate. ‘Indeed, death is the greatest form of escape.’ “I can finally breathe my last”, words rasped out in difficulty. And so the night bore witness to the loss of a miserable person, abandoned by all to become the villain for their chosen hero. Chest ceased in movement, eyes losing its vitality and breath no longer fogged. Death has reaped what’s left of the man awaiting for his fall.
