Chapter 17

1723 Words
Soft music could be heard from the ballroom in the Waltz family house, people of high esteem were there, different sophisticated people, people of high regard, the rich were only invited for the ceremony. Just the elites. Eric and Luck are in the car driving to the place of the party. “Boss, I just checked the invite record, Miss was invited too,” Luck said. “Miss?” Eric asked “Miss Lincoln, sorry Mrs MacMillies, your wife was also invited,” he said. Speaking of his wife, he hasn't heard from her since after their encounter early this morning. He knows there's something wrong with her somewhere, but he just can't put a finger on what it is. He sighs, he needs to stop thinking about her, he needs to focus on himself. “Ok then” Eric said. “Boss, wouldn't you like to go in with her as a couple?” Luck asked. “No,” Eric replied and went back to his phone. After a few moments of silence “Boss, I just found something,” Luck said. “Go on” “The waltz's eldest son, Dominic Waltz, is involved in some shady things, the one who leaked out the information concerning Ajec cooperation and Dominic are in alliance with the Red Talcum mafia gang, but at the looks of it, Dominic doesn't know that the person works for you or doesn't know that a Red Talcum Mafia ring exist” Luck said. “Hmmmmm” Eric said. “Who is the person that leaked the information of Ajec co-operation?” Eric asked. “Criag Waters, was once a secretary to one of the retired executives. My guess is when you poached the Ajec co-operation, and you brought most of their workers to Ericmac, you placed him in a very low position, and he's doing all of this as revenge. His cell phone has been tracked down, and we have evidence of him calling a European number which happens to be Dominic, as he was also invited to the party”. Luck said, looking at his laptop. “So Criag has the recordings of when the employee of Ajec was being poached, and made a copy before returning the original copy, and then sending it to those two riff-rafs who used it to bribe me. So what is Dominic's part in the plan?” Eric asked, looking outside the window as they drew close to the house. “Boss, remember the Waltz family's request for a merger between Ericmac and the Waltz family group. My guess is, he wants to get his hands on the record too, to bribe you,” Luck said. “No, hold me down,” Eric said. They got to the parking lot, the driver came out and opened the car door for them. Eric got down. “Let's watch the drama unfold,” Eric said with a smirk. Just then Avery drove in too. She parked her car and came down from the car gently, her waist still hurt like hell even though the doctor assured her that it would be fine soon. She sighs and locks her door. She turned around, and her blue eyes met with the green eyes of her husband, “Wait, what is he doing here?” she asked herself, “Oh, he's an elite, yeah I forgot,” she smiled at herself. And started walking towards him. “I never knew you were invited here too, Mr MacMillies,” she said with a mocking smile. Eric smirked at her, “I also didn't know Mrs MacMillies would be invited to the party too, considering she's unknown in the business world,” Avery stood in front of him. “I might not attend business parties and dinners, I know what I'm doing,” Avery said, looking at him, daring him to speak. But Eric just scoffs and goes his way. “You know, the majority of the people there know we are married. I hate to say this, but why don't we go in as a couple just for today?” Avery says, walking behind him. Eric turns to look at her as if she's grown a horn. Avery smiled, she was only doing this because of her father. She received a call in the middle of a meeting, her father telling her to inform Eric about the party just because he wasn't invited, and they should go as a couple. She disagrees at first, because going as a couple with Eric would spoil her plan of pinning the Waltz down, but her father insisted, so she has to obey him. Eric looked at her smiling and felt something inside of him. He arranged himself and opened his hand for her to hold. “Do anything inappropriate, I will cut off your hands,” Avery whispered to him. “With all due respect, Mrs MacMillies, you are not my type,” Eric replied. They walk into the hall looking like a sweet couple. Avery looks around. Wow, she's not attended a party thrown by an elite before. Her father and her older sister are mostly the ones attending such parties, except the ones her parents throw in their hotel, but she doesn't really attend those either. Eric saw how she looked around in the hall, mesmerized by the place, her looks giving out that this was my first time here. He holds her waist and draws her close. Avery whines in pain. Eric looks at her and is about to ask her if she is okay when someone cuts him short. “Mr MacMillies, nice meeting you here. My name is Fred Meyer, CEO of Purity Wine Company. It's an honor to meet you here,” he said, bringing out his hands for a handshake. Eric looked at the hand and looked away, and moved with Avery somewhere. “Nice meeting you too, Mr Meyer.” “And who might you be?” Fred asked, disappointed and disgusted. “Luck, Mr MacMillies Personal Assistant,” Luck said, wanting to stretch his hands when Fred took back his hand. “How rude,” Avery said. “Mr MacMillies, Mrs MacMillies, it's nice seeing you both here,” Mr Edwards said, smiling at them. “Edwards,” Eric said. “Introduce your wife to me, Mr MacMillies,” Edwards said, smiling. Avery smirks inwardly. The man standing before her looks crooked. His smile did not reach his stomach. “Avery MacMillies, my wife, Mr Edwards, CEO of the Famous County Clubs, and also a shareholder of Ericmac entertainment,” Eric said. Edwards stretches his hand for a handshake, which Avery takes. A lot of people come over to greet them, she's already getting tired of the party as she hasn't done what really brought her here. She sighs. “Ping ping ping” someone started hitting a class cup. They all looked up and noticed that it was the Waltz family head. Stephen Waltz, looked up with a smile “Thank you all for gathering here tonight. The main purpose of this event is to announce to you all about the return of my son Dominic Waltz back to the States and also his engagement to Miss Alice Rivers, the famous model,” he said with a proud smile, while others applauded him. Dominic Waltz walked in with a beautiful lady smiling at the people. “He's going to take over the company from me as the new CEO starting on Monday. I would love you all to please treat him well and accept him, as he's your son too. Do not hesitate to correct him when he makes a mistake. Cheers to a new start,” Mr Stephen Waltz concludes with a smile as he looks proudly at Dominic and Alice. Avery scoffed, Dominic doesn't look like someone who will be in the business world. She rolls her eyes and removes her hands from Eric's. She picks a drink from a waiter. She walks briskly towards the entrance and goes outside, to the balcony, the cool breeze touches her skin, and she sighs and takes a sip of the wine. “Who is this beauty and what is she doing out here alone?” a voice said behind her. She turns around and sees that it's Dominic. She smiles awkwardly at him. “Would you mind giving me this dance, my lady?” he asked, smiling. “I do mind,” Avery says with a kind smile, and continues sipping her wine. “Feisty, my name is Dominic Waltz and you are?" he asked. “Married, you don't need to know who I am. Now if you will excuse me, my husband is searching for me,” she said, and was about to leave when Dominic held her arm. Avery looks at his hand on her arm and looks at him, and shakes his hand off. “It's rude to touch people without their permission, Mr Waltz,” she said, not waiting for his reply and left. She hurriedly walked to the hall. Eric saw her rushing inside. He started wondering what happened. He noticed she wasn't by his side again when he was having a discussion with an associate. He was about to look for her when he saw her rushing in. She dropped her empty glass on the table and picked another one. Eric sighs and focuses on the discussion he's having. Why is he worried about her? They are nothing. Avery gulps her drink. She was about to turn around when someone bumped into her, her purse and her wine glass fell on the floor and the wine splashed on her clothes. The glass was shattered on the ground, her purse opened, and a few things fell out. “s**t! I'm so sorry, let me wipe that for you,” the person said. Avery bent down to pick up her purse and arrange the things inside, and stood up. She looked at the person who bumped into her. It was Alice, Dominic's girlfriend. “Don't worry I'm fine. Excuse me,” she said and left. Not too far from the scene, a man picked up an ID card that flew towards him. He looked at the ID card and smiled. “Got you!”
