Chapter 10

1132 Words
Avery barged into her father's study room unannounced and angrily. She flings the files on the table and looks at her father’s face that holds no emotions. “Avery, you should calm down,” Amma said, following Avery into the office. “What is the meaning of this father?” Avery asked. Mathew looks at her with an unreadable expression. Then looking at the files on the table. “What does this mean, father?” Avery shouted. “Don't you dare raise your voice on your father, have you lost it? Have you lost your sense of reasoning?” Amma asked, looking at Avery. Avery scoffed. “Mother, ask father what's in that file,” Avery said, pointing at the files. Amma looks at Mathew, then at Avery. “What's in the file?” She ask gently. “I don't know, your daughter brought it here,” Mathew said. “Inside that file is a contract agreement between Lincoln Enterprise and the Ericmac Company,” Avery said. “So?” Amma asked. “Father sold me to the MacMillies family for 50%shares,” Avery said. “What does that even mean?” Amma asked. “MacMillies agreed to restore our stock and shareholders only on the condition that we give them 50% shares,” Avery said. “I still don't get it, you get 50%, they get 50%. Isn't that fair business?” Amma asked. “Mum, I was told to get married to MacMillies because that's the condition to restore our stocks, where did the 50% shares come from? Aren't we giving too much to the MacMillies? Is this how my father runs the company? No wonder the company is coming down,” Avery said. “Slap!!” Avery turned around looking at her father, who slapped her hard on the face. “From today henceforth, you will seize talking about my company in that manner, my hard work is there. And I give shares to whoever I see fit and Eric I see fit,” Mathew said, standing up from his chair. “Honey, please be-” “Take your daughter out of my studies right now” Mathew said. Amma looked at Avery, then at Mathew and took her hand and was about to leave when… “You will return to the office and do your duty, after which you go back home and continue your wifely duties,” Mathew said. Amma sighs and takes Avery out. “You shouldn't have spoken to your father in such a manner,” Amma said in her bedroom with Avery. “Mum, dad gave out shares to someone after giving me out for marriage to that same someone, don't you see it. The condition to assist and revive our company was for me to marry Eric, but dad decided to add 50% shares to it.” “Your Dad can give shares to whomever he wants to give it to. It's his company,” Amma said, helping Avery to clean her face. “Same shares that we don't have enough of?” Amma sighs. “Just let it go.” ________ “I told you to take care of them, not to kill them,” Eric said, sitting in his office chair. “I did as I was told Sir. I collected every duplicate from them, threatened them and paid them off. But I didn't kill them, and I don't know who did,” Luck said. Eric turned around. “Where was their body found?” “Right in front of the opposite warehouse, I think they killed them,” Luck answered. “No” Eric said “Sir?” “The unknown opponent did not kill them, someone else did. They are trying to make us a suspect,” Eric said. “Us?” luck asks. “I and the unknown opponent, someone else, knew about our discussion. They saw us the other day at the club, and I think it's someone that sent them.” “The mayor?” Luck asked. “ I doubt that the mayor wouldn't be that foolish to do something as reckless as this, someone else did, and they are making it look like I killed them and sent them to an unknown opponent, making it look like they sent Louis and James. Which makes them suspects too,” Eric said. “So what do we do? It's already on the news that Andrew Richardson killed someone again,” Luck said. “Don't worry, leave it.” _________ “Come on Avery, if you keep punching in that, you will put a big hole there,” Amy said. Amy is a very close friend to Avery. They met during camp training. They've been friends ever since then. “Here your coffee is ready, you should relax and take some,” Amy said. Avery released her punch on the punching bag. “I just can't believe my father would do something like that to me, like I was sold out. Meanwhile, 50% of our shares iare being given out as a token. What am I? A gift box?” Avery asked. “I think so,” Amy whispered. Avery glared at her, “Listen, the good thing is that the marriage deal is just for 1 year, after which everyone goes their way, at least by then you might have doubled your own share,” Amy said. Avery sat down and took her coffee, “I hate him, I hate him so much with passion,” she said. Amy laughed. “I think you should redirect all that hatred towards Andrew Richardson,” Amy said. Avery sighed. “How is it going?” Amy asked. “It isn't going well at all, every time I feel like I'm heading somewhere, something just… I don't know seems to block the path...and then I will have to go back round, starting all over from the beginning. It's tiring,” Avery sighs. “I know, Richardson's case is making you mad at the MacMillies,” Amy said. “I just…I don't know why I find it really difficult to pin him down. Who the hell is he?” “Andrew Richardson, the boss and Don of the Black Heart Mafia ring, listen, all these are patience, it's a big case, and you just know that you won't be able to pin him down as easily as you thought, one step at a time,” Amy said. “I just need some solid proof of evidence or something, then I will be able to bring that motherfucker down,” Avery said as she arranged herself…. “I have to go back to the company…haven't really been there for a while... I will call you later,” she said, kissed Amy and left.
