Avery walked downstairs steadily she saw a man, not quite old but looking handsome, and then a young girl, the same girl she met with Eric upstairs. They were talking in the living room, while Ms Maryanne was preparing the food at the dinner table. “Ahem!” she cleared her throat They all turned and looked at her, “Oh Avery dear, how are you? Please come join us,” the handsome old man said with a smile, waving her over. Avery went to sit on the empty sofa. She looked at the man, she squinted her eyes, seeing the man a bit familiar, wondering where they met before. But her brain just can't catch up. “Oh, I can see that you don't know who I am, Eric, why don't you introduce us?” he said and gestured to Eric who was on the phone. “I'm currently -” “Mr MacMillies, the CEO of the MacMillies enterprise, father of the -CEO of the Ericmac Company, Woah, it's a pleasure to finally meet you in person,” Avery said, smiling in excitement as she stretched her hands for a handshake. Mr MacMillies stood up and gave her a warm hug. “I'm happy to meet you too, you are a beautiful one, isn't she Marcy?” He asked the young girl who was watching them with a smile. “Marcy? Wait! Marcy MacMillies?” Avery asked, pointing at her. “Yep, that's me,” she said and stood up, and gave her a hug. “I'm so happy to have you all here. I'm sorry I didn't prepare. I just got off from work and decided to take a bath and I fell asleep. I'm really, really sorry.” “Oh no, it's okay, we just decided to come see the newly married couple, since Eric has decided not to introduce us,” Mr MacMillies said. Avery laughed, and sat down close to them. “How are you and how is work?” she asked. “ Work is fine. Thank heavens, I now have a daughter-in-law who will care for me and ask how my day went,” Mr MacMillies said. “Oh, Marcy is always here to ask, and Eric too,” Avery smiled. “Marcy? Yeah she does her best," Mr MacMillies said. “Dinner is served,” Ms Maryanne announced and walked away. “Mr MacMillies, please let's go to the dinner room,” Avery said and stood up. “Silly child, I'm your father-in-law, call me Father, don't call me MacMillies,” he said and followed her. Avery nodded and smiled, he's so kind and sweet, easy to talk to and a lovable person, unlike someone she knows that's always grumpy and angry, never smiling and the most perverted and cold person she has ever come across. She turned to look at him and saw that he was looking at her with disgust. She glared at him before she quickly converted her eyes and went to sit opposite Mr MacMillies. Ms Maryanne came and served the food on their plates, and they all started eating. “So tell me Avery, how is life lately?” Mr MacMillies asked. “It's not easy, but I'm trying my best to adjust to it,” she said. “Yes, I know how it can be, especially as you are married to my son. I know how he can be sometimes,” Mr MacMillies smiled. “Dad, I'm sitting right here, you know?” Eric said. “Oh, I know, that's why I'm telling her. I remember when I got married, it was exciting and also scary, but I coped. Dear Avery, has he done anything bad to you?” Mr MacMillies asked Avery looked at Eric and smiled. Eric quickly swallowed the food in his mouth. Her smile was perfect. “Not yet, sir.” “Oh okay then, if he does anything, do not hesitate to call me and tell me, I will make sure to whoop his ass anytime dear." “I will surely do that,” Avery said with a smile. “Dad, do you know that?” Eric was cut short by the ringing of his phone. He picked it up, he looked at the screen and put the phone in his ear, “Yes? What happened? Okay, no problem, I will be there in a short while. Write out the items and don't leave there” he said and dropped the phone. “You were about to say something,” Mr MacMillies said. “Nothing dad, I'm off, work calls,” Eric said. “Why don't you finish your dinner first, and besides, it's already late,” Marcy said. “Don't worry. Maryanne will show you your rooms,” he said and left. “Hmm, is he always like this?” Marcy asked. “Uh no, I guess he's really busy,” Avery answered. “Don't cover up for him dear, he's always busy,” Mr MacMillies said. ------ “So tell me, how was your wedding night?” Mr MacMillies asked, wrinkling his eyebrows. They've finished eating and are sitting in the living room. “Powww,” Avery spat out the juice she was drinking. She didn't expect that question, and definitely not from Mr MacMillies. “Mr-” “Dad,” Mr MacMillies said. “Dad, um, the wedding night — it was — it was—uh—” “You did have a wedding night, right? How did he perform? His ex-girlfriends used to brag about him, so tell us,” Marcy said, looking at her with a smile. “Uh- it was—” Her phone rang. She looked at it and saw that it was Eugene. She sighed and took the phone. “Please allow me to answer this,” she said and left. She breathed a sigh of relief. “Hello?” “Ma'am, we've got a call from the sub-station.” “What's it about?” “A train full of weapons was shifted not quite long, and it belongs to no other than-” “Andrew Richardson,” Avery said. “Yes boss” “I will be there in a jiffy. I want you to go there with the boys and keep that place guarded. Do not fire Eugene. On no account should you fire. Anybody you see suspicious, track them and hold them down till I come, is that clear?” she asked. “Yes ma'am” “I will be there right now, keep giving me updates on the phone and I will know what to do,” she said. “Yes ma'am, I will be off now,” Eugene said and ended the call. She was about to drop her phone when she heard footsteps. She held the phone tightly to her ear. “Yes Kimberly, drop the files at the table and I will be in the office soon — no, don't worry, the Zoom meeting can be held now. We've been shifting it, but since it's daytime at their side now, we can hold the meeting. I will be at the office soon. Just make arrangements and call the directors”. She dropped the phone and sighed. “You are really busy wifey,” she heard a voice behind her. She turned and saw Marcy looking at her, “I'm sorry, how long have you been here?” “Long enough to know who you truly are."
