Rowan Her eyes widened, and her fingers twitched against my skin. A deep, vibrant flush worked its way up her neck and across her cheeks. It even turned the tips of her ears pink. A soft smile tugged at my lips, and she blinked rapidly before looking away. I wanted desperately to force her to look at me. I wanted her eyes on me at all times. But I didn't want to push her. She was skittish. Like a cornered animal deciding whether to bare its teeth or bow to the stronger predator. This was new for both of us and if I moved too quickly, she would startle. And if she startled, all the fragile trust I was trying so damn hard to build would shatter before I ever truly had it. A knock sounded at the door and I felt her stiffen in my arms instantly.
