Chapter 4,Yut

1057 Words
It took four days before they reached Yut, the town by the edge of the desert. Kamiron stopped by the stables and put his horse away safely for a few coins. After that Nova and Kamiron walked into the town. Kamiron needed supplies for his journey and Nova decided to stay with him till he was ready to leave Yut. Yut was a town mostly known for trading food, because of the many farms to the north, and the lack of food to the south. Kamiron used his last coins on food and other supplies he might need, like a torch, oil and ropes. Kamiron knew exactly what he wanted to buy and had a serious look on his face as he went from store to store collecting what he needed. When kamiron was done getting supplies he headed to the stables, but Nova stopped him. "Don't you need money on your journey? For if finding the library takes longer than you think and you need more food?" She said "And where would I buy food in the desert? This is the last chance I have to stock up before I enter the desert." Kamiron stated. Nova pouted. She knew he was right but leaving for a journey without money just seemed too dangerous. Kamiron laughed at her pout and then smiled at her. "Fine, you win Nova. Will you help me get some money then?" Nova nodded and together they went to the tavern to look at the request board every tavern had, where people could hang a note asking for help, and wanderers could earn their money with. "Here, this one sounds good. All we need to do is deliver a package and we get 4 gold coins." Kamiron decided. 4 gold coins was enough to buy plenty of food. Nova found it suspicious though, such an easy task with such good pay. Before Nova could bring it up to Kamiron he had already gone outside. Nova decided she was probably overly cautious, after all, Kamiron knew what he was doing and she didn't. She caught up with Kamiron outside on his way to the pick-up location. They arrived there within 10 minutes and picked up the package succesfully. The package was a book. It didn't take much effort for Nova to realise why the job had such good pay, the book they were delivering was incredibly old and seemed to be a spell book, maybe even from the old kingdom that used to be in the Centre, Venturis. Anything from Venturis was considered an ancient relic since Venturis was destroyed over 500 years ago, by the dragon Gofos during the great war. Gofos was said to be strong enough to kill all divines in a fight, and he did. it took hundreds of years, and many lives, to defeat Gofos, but when they finally did, the first kingdom, the mountain kingdom of Venturis, had been reduced to a crater between the mountains of the Centre. Kamiron and Nova decided to follow the main roads to their destination in order to prevent potential threats to the book. After they had walked for a few minutes Nova noticed how empty the streets where. There were no other people, which was weird considering they took the main road. Upon further inspection she realised they kept seeing the same houses, as if walking in a circle. They were walking in a straight line though. Kamiron had started noticing it to and slowed down his steady pace. When they had come to a full stop Nova realised what was going on, they were seeing an illusion! The illusion was about 10 houses long on either side of the road. Dispelling an illusion of that size was quite easy for Nova, as it was one of the first things she was taught in Omin. She nodded to Kamiron, and he nodded back. They were both aware they might be ambushed when they escaped the illusion, so they both held on to there weapon tightly. Nova placed her free hand on Kamiron's shoulder and closed her eyes and started humming in a deep tone. Kamiron closed his eyes too, and when they opened their eyes they were in an alley, surrounded by four thugs, two on each side. They were attacked at the same moment, by two of the thugs. Kamiron shielded one s***h from a sword with his own sword, but got hit in a shoulder by the second thug's blade, an axe. Nova dashed to one of the thugs that hadn't attacked, and whithin a moment she had stabbed him. The man dropped to the floor as the last readied his sword to attack Nova. At the same time Kamiron turned his sword in such a way that the length of the blade went along the back of his arm, like you wield a dagger. Kamiron thrushed his blade towards his back, where the thug was about to attack Nova, and after slashing him he turned his sword back around and blocked another hit from one of the thugs in front of him, before kicking him in the stomache. He did this all incredibly fast, and even Nova was surprised at the skill her traveling companion had. The only thug left standing realised his situation and surrendered in a panic. "You got to understand... Karime made us get that book. If we don't, he will kill us. We would never rob anyone if a divine wouldn't have threatened us!" the man cried. Kamiron sighed and shook his head. "I can't give Karime something like this, but don't worry. I will take care of Karime myself." The man wasn't sure wether he was talking to an insane person, but he certainly didn't believe Kamiron. No-one could "take care" of a god. Kamiron and Nova took the four men's weapons and left them in the alley, without alerting the guards because they both felt sorry for the men. The rest of the delivery went as planned. At the stables Kamiron was ready to say farewell to Nova when she suddenly got on the horse with him. "Why?" He asked shocked. "I'm probably safer here with you than in Yut, and besides, if I don't come along, who will heal that shoulder of yours?" She giggled, as she patted the horses butt softly, to make it start walking before Kamiron could change his mind.
