Redeus and his companions breathed a sigh of relief as they gazed upon the glimmering blue gem. They had overcome countless obstacles to get here, and the artifact was finally within their grasp. But their joy was short-lived.
As they approached the gem, a figure stepped out from the shadows. It was their guide, the one who had sent them the mysterious map. He was a wiry, lean man with sharp features and piercing eyes.
"What do you want?" Redeus demanded, his hand moving towards his sword.
The guide held up his hands in a gesture of peace. "I have brought you here to retrieve the artifact, just as I promised," he said. "But I'm afraid I cannot allow you to leave with it."
Redeus and his companions exchanged worried glances. They had suspected that there was more to this quest than met the eye, but they had never imagined that their guide would turn on them.
"What are you talking about?" Jax demanded. "We completed the quest, fair and square. The artifact belongs to us."
The guide shook his head. "You don't understand. The artifact is too powerful to fall into the wrong hands. It must be protected at all costs."
"You mean, you're going to keep it for yourself?" Redeus said, his voice rising in anger.
The guide shrugged. "If that's what it takes, yes. But don't worry, I won't harm you. I simply can't allow you to take the artifact."
Redeus and his companions realized they were outnumbered and outmatched. They had come too far to give up now, but they knew they couldn't take the guide in a fight.
Suddenly, they heard a loud rumbling sound from outside the temple. The ground shook beneath their feet, and debris fell from the ceiling.
"What's happening?" Tira cried.
The guide looked out the window and gasped. "It's an avalanche! We have to get out of here!"
They raced out of the temple, dodging falling rocks and debris. They could hear the roar of the avalanche growing louder and louder behind them. They ran as fast as they could, but they were too slow. The avalanche caught up with them, burying them in a sea of snow and ice.
When they finally emerged from the snowdrift, they found themselves in a different place altogether. They were no longer in the mountains, but in a dark, damp cave. The guide was nowhere to be seen.
Redeus and his companions knew they had to find a way out of the cave and continue their quest. But they also knew that they could no longer trust anyone, not even their own guide. They had to be more careful than ever, for they were now in the hands of fate.
