Chapter 4 It Starts

3718 Words
Waking up gasping for air. Once again I woke up at the part where the father started choking that other Sky. As soon as I caught my breath there was soft knock on my door. “Hey Sky are you ok in there?” Dr. Drake’s voice sounded concerned through the door. I got up and opened the door to see his face. Which it wasn’t there. It was just a black hole, and repeated it self. My heart was pounding am I still dreaming? He reach up to knock again but meet the air. “Sky! Help me!” He screamed in agony through the black hole of his face. Before I could even react a b****y arm reached out the black hole. It grabbed my shirt and pulled me into the black hole. I grabbed the door frame holding on for dear life. “Sky! Help me!” The b****y arm yanked harder. Never releasing its grip and mine begins to slip. I can’t bring myself to scream or reject helping. Tears start to fall from my eyes from my terror. A b****y and mangled face appeared from the hole. The face smeared at me and did a blood curling laugh. “You will be mine!” It whaled at me. I threw back my body and was able to get out of the b****y arm’s grip. Quickly I slammed the door and sat against it. Bracing myself against the door waiting for the thing to try to get me again. Started shaking violently and Dr. Drake’s voice was calling my name from behind the door. I closed my eyes tight just wanting it to be over. Suddenly I’m opening my eyes and I’m laying in bed. Dr. Drake trying to wake me up. “Sky! Sky wake up! Come on Sky wake up.” I sat up and I could feel the tears run down my face. Dr. Drake blew a sigh of relief. “You were screaming in your sleep. So I rushed in here trying to wake you.” I half threw myself on Dr. Drake and hugged him. Crying into his chest. The feeling of dread washed over me like a tsunami washing over Japan. We stayed like that until I calmed down. Slowly letting go of Dr. Drake hurt my body. Mainly because I was there for a while without moving. I laid back down taking a deep breath. “There’s something after me. I can feel it.” I whispered more to myself then to the good doctor. He looked at me with a puzzled expression. “Try to rest some more. We will talk about after breakfast.” He got up to leave and looked back at me. “Will you be alright? We can always sleep in the living room. You get pull out couch and I can have my bedroom door open. Since it’s right off the living room.” He pointed down the hall where the living room sat. I shook my head. “No thanks. It wouldn’t do any good.” I said fighting back sobs. “True but at least you know you are not alone. I’m here for you, but rest for now. Your door is staying open and so is mine.” With that he headed back to bed. I pulled the covers right around me. Even with the dread and terror I feel. It’s nice to know that I’m no alone in all of this anymore. Finally I have someone who wants to help. At least it seems like he wants too. I woke up to the smell of bacon and other foods being made. I got up out of bed stretching out my muscles because after the nightmare I didn’t move at all. Luckily for me the bathroom was right across the hall. Going potty, then moved the sink to wash my face. I’m pretty sure I needed after last night. I didn’t bother looking in the mirror after I was done, and made my way to the kitchen. Dr. Drake had the table ready and food just finished cooking when I walked in. “Good morning Sky. Hope you’re hungry.” He said in a cheerful voice as he sat down at the table and pointed to the chair across from him. I made a weak smile and sat down. We made our plates and dug in. It was nice to eat with someone and not be grilled about my dream and screaming. “Thank you.” I told Dr. Drake as we cleaned up breakfast. He looked at me from the corner of his eye while he was loading the dishwasher. “It’s really nice to know that someone wants to help. Or at least is there when I need it. Instead of being lectured about having wild dreams.” Rinsing off the last dish and handing it to him to put inside the dishwasher. He smiled at me “You don’t have to thank me. I should be thanking you. Since you meant be the reason we solve a cold case.” We got ourselves ready for the day. The Doc didn’t want me to be alone since my parents were unpredictable I joined him. Going on errands, picking out a cupcake and present for his secretary since it was her birthday. He felt bad that he couldn’t give her the day off. So doing this and letting her leave early was the best he could do. He seemed like nice person for doing this for her and feeling bad about not being able to do more. We got to his office and he started singing happy birthday to her when the elevator doors opened. She smiled and teared up a bit. “Oh my goodness! I didn’t think you’d remember. I didn’t say anything about it.” She took her present and the cupcake from him. He gave her the biggest smile I’ve ever seen. “You deserve it. You work so hard for me. Also I’m sorry I can’t give the full day off. But you can early today if you want too. Just let me know ok?” She nodded her head and thanked him once more as we headed into his office. I went right to the couch I always sat on. The good doc went to his desk and pulled out a few files. “I’m sorry but around here is going to be boring. I have to review some of my other patients and you might have to be in the waiting room for awhile.” He didn’t even look up from his papers. “That’s alright Dr. Drake. I’d rather hang around here then the mall or library.” I said half joking and half not. I don’t have anything to do. Nothing to read or keep myself entertained. My parents took my cell phone yesterday. Which I don’t see how they got it. But when I went to grab yesterday it was gone. “Oh hey, have you seen my cell phone? I haven’t seen it since you took it yesterday.” I started looking around his office to see if it dropped under the couch or maybe the couch ate it. When I stood back up he was watching me. “Let me check my pockets. Are you sure I didn’t give it back yesterday?” He asked removing his reading glasses, and checking his pockets. I shook my head no. His face became concerned and he made a phone call. Staring at him confused he talked quietly so I couldn’t hear what was being said as I walked around seeing if my phone was somewhere in the room. I heard him ending the call. “Who did you call? If you don’t mind me asking.” I walked across the room and stopped in front of his desk. Being careful not to look at the other files. He didn’t glance at me. “I called my pal in the police department and made a report. They’ll find your phone soon enough.” I was floored! I felt my jaw drop and my eyes widened. “Don’t be so surprised. If it’s not here and someone took it without permission then they’re in trouble. If it’s a simple you lost it then everything is fine.” I closed my jaw but I still just stared at him. “Could I give you my number to call?” I asked looking at the phone on his desk. He gestured toward his office phone. So without hesitation I picked it up and dialed my number. “Hello? Sky’s phone.” My father answered and I froze. “Who is this calling? Your number isn’t in the phone.” Dr.Drake looked at me and I covered the receiver end of the phone. “It’s my dad.” I whispered so he couldn’t hear me. Dr.Drake took the phone from my hands and spoke into it. “Oh yes hello. This is Dr. Drake and I was looking for Sky’s phone. How did you get it? Since I took it yesterday for our appointment and didn’t give it back.” I couldn’t hear what my father said but by Dr. Drakes reaction it wasn’t a good one. “Sir, would you like to come down and retell that to Sky and maybe the police to confirm that it’s true. Because I feel like my video cameras would argue against you.” His voice got very stern and a little scary. “Return the phone before the end of my work day. Or I will let the police know about your activities.” With that he hung up and went back to his files. He handed one to me, after he removed a few papers. I took it from him and sat down on the couch. Being on the couch my back was to him so I couldn’t see what he was doing. And the only thing he could if he looked up would be the back of my head. Over looking the file I realized he gave me the cold file report on dream Sky. Everything lined up from the camp ground, to Sky going missing, but there were a few things missing. “Hey is this all the file? There’s a few things missing.” I called back to him. I stood up still keeping my eyes on the file and rereading it. Trying to make sure I didn’t miss anything. “The papers missing is how the body was found. So if you’re dream is really about this Sky then I need to be sure.” I nodded my head I did understand his point. This would be the difference between being crazy or being able to dream about dead people. Which honestly still seems crazy to me. I gave him back the file and laid on the couch staring at the ceiling. “So whats my next move Doc? Wait for another part of the dream to happen? Or talking to the police about what’s missing from their file? I just don’t know what to do.” He didn’t reply for the longest time. Which I thought about different possibilities, and how this could all play out. Though all involved me being homeless once this was all over. Someone was knocking on door. Dr. Drake’s secretary opened it “sir your first appointment is here.” He must have given a wave to let them in. I got up from the couch and made my way to the waiting room. I didn’t bother looking at the person I passed. Only staring straight ahead this was going to be a long day. After the first person they were back to back appointments. It was really hard to not fall asleep while sitting there. Reading the same old magazines, looking at the same old pictures, and the soft lighting. It just makes a person tired. I tried to get up and talk to the secretary but she didn’t want too. So I gave that up rather quickly. I know she’s eager to leave for the day, and I tried to get her to let me help with the paper work. Taking a big sigh I slouched in my seat. The office door finally opened and Dr. Drake came out following his latest patient. Saying bye to them and when to schedule again. He made his way to me and clapped his hands together. “Ready for lunch?” He turned his back on me making his way to his secretary. Dismissing her for the rest of the day. She followed us to the elevator. Listening to the elevator music I had a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. Suddenly the elevator stopped and everything went black. I couldn’t see my hand in front of my face. Trying to talk and no words come out of my mouth. Reaching for where I saw Dr. Drake and I feel nothing. Never ending blackness. As I stumble around the darkness trying to feel something, and trying to hear for Dr. Drake or his secretary. Suddenly a b****y curling scream comes from behind me. The darkness fills with dread and a bone chilling cold. I slowly turn my head toward where I hear the scream. The thing with no face was standing in a door way light by a red light. A twisted horrible face comes from the depths of where the face should be at. “Sky!!!” The roar shook the darkness and the cold air. My body started to trembling from this roaring and booming voice. I dropped to my knees that tsunami of dread and hopelessness kept washing over me. Each wave stronger then the last. The creature was right in front of me before I knew it. Being completely paralyzed I could stare at the blackness where the feet should be. I could feel the it’s icy grip coming for me. Next thing I know I jolted and Dr. Drake and his secretary were staring at me. Dr. Drake looked very worried and the secretary looked scared. I could feel the sweat running off my face. I moved my hand to wipe the sweat off, but it wasn’t sweat. Tears were pouring like someone turned on a faucet. My breath was labored, and my heart pounding like a rabbit running from a hungry wolf. Dr. Drake stopped the elevator and his secretary got out. But we stayed while I was having my break down. I apparently fell asleep while leaning against the back on elevator, sank down to the floor on my knees, and began screaming. Dr. Drake had reached out to me and before he touched my shoulder I opened my eyes. After a few rides up and down the elevator we got off on the main floor, and left the building. Everything looked out of place to me. Nothing seemed right. Walking, opening the car door, and ordering lunch. It all felt like it wasn’t me, but it is me. We finished eating and we drove back to Dr. Drake’s house. He had canceled the rest of his appointments because this never happened. Never had I nodded off like that and had something that intense. We got seated in his living room and settled in. I didn’t waste time I told about what happened in the elevator. I didn’t even know I fell asleep. And this figure just started to show up. I have no idea what it means or what’s going on. I just let so consumed when this thing started to show up. Also telling him after dreaming the 2nd part of Sky’s final days I snapped awake but I wasn’t awake at all. It how the thing first appeared to me. “It feels like this thing wants to eat my soul or something.” I felt myself telling Dr. Drake. Leaning forward in my seat and just staring at my hands. I could feel Dr. Drake was thinking, and it was putting me on edge. “Now Sky could you blocking yourself from seeing more of your dream? Could these dreams be making you think a creature that is trying to stop you from seeing what happened to dream Sky?” My head snapped up. My face blank I looked at him as I considered his words. “I don’t think so. The first time it appeared to me; it pretending to be you and concerned about me. Until I opened the door. The face gone and a b****y arm reaching out for me. Trying to take me into it. So I don’t think I’m blocking myself. I think this thing is trying to block me. There’s something more going on.” I started out strong then ended up talking more to myself. I must has zoned out before I realized it Dr. Drake was letting my father inside. Dr. Drake tapped me on the shoulder to get my attention. My father didn’t bother with him or how you doing. “So is Sky crazy or just a nut job?” His voice was cold and sharp. He looked like he was trying to stare down Dr. Drake. Which didn’t work because Dr. Drake sat in his chair and looked my father dead in the eyes. “No Sky is not crazy or a nut job. But I would like your family tree. With what Sky is experiencing I believe it has more to do with your family. Then Sky being crazy. Which does craziness run in your family or your wife’s?” My father’s face just looked appalled. He just stared at Dr. Drake then looked over at me. His face twisted in anger, and looked as though he was going to threw himself at me. “Don’t look at Sky that way. This is a conversation between us. What I’m asking isn’t unreasonable. If you feel it is then speak up.” Dr. Drake got up from his chair and stood between my father and myself. My father threw something on the floor and stormed out. The thing he threw down broke into what seemed like a million pieces. I got up to get a better look and it was my phone. ‘Oh great.’ Was my only thought when Dr. Drake went over and picked up my SIM card that was still intact. We looked at each other and Dr. Drake smiled. “Good thing I have cameras in my office. We’ll be able to see what your parents did to your phone.” With that he went to go make a call to get it looked at. I laid down on the couch. Everything has been exhausting. My dreams, my parents, and this thing that wants my soul. What is going on with my life? I just stared at the ceiling. My head swirling of my life and wonder where everything went wrong. I could feel my eyes getting heavy and my breath slowing. “Hey Doc I’m about to fall asleep.” I tried to talk loudly so he could hear me. Before he could reply I was out like a light. I Dreamt of Sky running to the camper and the father choking. I burst awake and hearing pounding on the door. “Open the door Sky! It’s time to go!!” With that the door rips open and that figure with no face stands where the door use to be. “Come home Sky. It’s so cold without you!” It roared as an unseen force knocks me back and I land hard on my back. Knocking the wind out of me. I blink trying to make myself to start breathing again. But the thing is over me before I can even begin to understand what is happing. “Come home Sky. We miss you burning in the fire!” I closed my eyes so I don’t look into the abyss where a face should be. I try to scream no, but there’s only silence except this things roaring and the sound of chains rattling. Dr. Drake was shaking me kinda violently and yelling my name. After he realized I was awake he was so sweaty you could see it rolling off him. He looked as though he was the he looking at that thing. We both were breathing hard. Taking a moment to get ourselves together before we spoke. Dr. Drake is the first one to talk. “Are you ok? That seemed to be one hell of a dream.” He kinda chuckled I’m sure it was to help keep the conversation light. But after that I wasn’t having it. And with thing I feel like I’m starting to lose my mind. “I’m not ok. It was normal Sky dream of part 2 ending with the father choking. Then back to this monster who apparently misses me burning in a fire. And then I heard chains rattling before I woke up.” Dr. Drake’s face fell and he got very serious. “Tell me everything what happened with that thing. Every detail.” With that I told him everything I could remember of the thing from the first appearance to this time. Dr. Drake just sat there thinking, and it felt like it was taking forever. “Hey Drake? What do you think about this thing? Am I going crazy and torturing myself? Or could it something else?” I twiddled my fingers not looking at the good doc. “Well Sky it’s hard to know not knowing your family’s background. So tomorrow we’re going to the library and seeing what we find in the history section. Also I’m going to call some connections of mine. If we’re luck we won’t find anything odd. But…” he trailed off and I could feel his eyes on me. So I looked up and met his gaze. Which was mix of serious and concerned. “But what?” I finally asked what seemed like forever of just sitting there and staring at each other. “If we are unlucky then you’re family has some dark dealings and that’s a demon coming for you.”
