The Blonde She Devil

Meave’s POV They say the morning sun is an antidote for sadness. In my case, it didn’t make things feel better. I lay there sobbing silently. My heart felt like it was tightening into knots. I wanted the feeling to stop so bad, but I was even making it worse. Thoughts and voices of how my parents didn’t care about what I was going through anymore and remembering how we always shared our burdens and the little food we had as a family haunted me. I should be up doing my morning routines; however, an invisible weight pinned me down. Looking at the bright side of this should make me happy. “Maybe tomorrow I’ll put on a demeanor that I’m getting married to the C.E.O of ethereal magazine, but for today, I’m going to drown in my thoughts.” I whimpered *Sharp knocks* “Well, someone just decided to interrupt my emotional moment,” I said, rolling my eyes as I struggled to crawl out of bed. As I made my way to the luxurious living room, the knocking continued, and I arched my brow, wondering who could be at my door so early. “It definitely can’t be Axel. He has the keys to his own place,” a voice said in my head. When I reached the front door, my brow still arched, my heart raced a little. I hoped it wasn’t an intruder. I tiptoed, put my palms on the door, closed my left eye, and pressed my right eye close to the peephole to see who it was… “What’s this h*e doing in my house? Definitely to keep track of what’s going on in my life”. I whispered. It was Jenny again! “Why does she always pop in when she’s least expected? Now I have to put on my fake smile and do all that rich girl s**t.” I was contemplating whether or not to open the door, but I knew if I didn't, she would think I was hiding from her, and the last thing I wanted was to look weak. As I placed my hand on the doorknob, my eyes brightened. I remembered I still had some lingering tears in my eyes, and the last thing I wanted was for Jenny to pry into my personal life. I reached for my eyes and wiped off the leftover tears. I wiped the excess tears from my nightgown, and I felt ready to face her. The door swung open. I felt the muscles in my cheeks expand as I formed the widest smile known to man. “Hey girl!”I teased — acting could have been my calling because the way I delivered that perfect BFF vibe was flawless. As I stood there staring at her pretty little face, all I could think of was cutting her fingers off bit by bit. I took out my arms for a ‘fake hug’, but being the b***h that she was, she pushed my arms off and went on to ask, “Why are your eyes so red? Are you crying because your fiancé is disgusted by you that he even decided not to stay home with you?” A thousand pins pierced my heart as I stood there, staring into her blue eyes. “How could she see through my facade?” a voice crept into my mind. Tears threatened to explode from my eyes, but I used every bit of emotional strength I had to hold it together. I clenched my wrist, fingernails digging deep into the soft flesh of my palm. That pain, that stabbing pain, also helped me cope, kept me sane at that moment. I watched her drown in her own laughter. My life seemed like a joke to her. My muscles trembled beneath my skin as I watched her laugh. She was so lost in her laughter that she lost all awareness. “Was it that funny?” a voice whispered to me. The tears I had worked so hard to keep from streaming down eventually poured from my eyes like rain. My fingers squeezed tightly against my palm—subconsciously, I was trying to focus on another pain to suppress the one Jenny caused. I stood there frozen, my gaze glued to Jenny. Slowly, her loud laughter turned muffled. My vision grew hazy. “J-Jonah has spread the news already?” My lips quivered as I mumbled. “What do you mean by spreading the news? I live with Jonah already. Axel told me himself. That’s how your fiancé devalues you.” She leaned in, tapping the tip of my nose with her index finger. In anger, I smacked her hands off. “Oh, did I hit a nerve?… I didn’t mean to.” She whined. “Lies! You know exactly what you are doing’ My voice was above a whisper. “ Whatever, girl. What do you have for breakfast? I’m starving,” she said, fueling up my anger. “So you just came to make fun of me, huh? I stammered, my forehead furrowed, showing how pained I was, but what did Jenny say next? Definitely something that crushed my heart. “I’m sure I won’t be the first person to tell you this... go get Botox. "Your forehead wrinkles are getting worse.” She sounded carefree as she pushed me a little to the side. Her red gown swayed with every step, and her blonde hair brushed against my face. My fist clenched, but my body felt heavy. I felt my insides burn with rage. I took deep breaths so I wouldn’t hurt Jenny. I know how quick I am to grab things when I am mad. I hoped Jenny wouldn’t say something that would make me want to hit her. Seeing her sit comfortably with her smelly feet on my couch almost made me lose my temper, but I held it together. “Why did you come here, Jenny? I have things to do,” I said with a sigh. “Love…” she said, pausing as she rose from the couch and fixed her eyes on me, moving closer. Everyone knows you do nothing all day, so don’t act like you have a life.” As she said this, she picked up her bag and left, as if she knew that if she stayed any longer, she wouldn’t be leaving this house alive.
