As we descended the stairs and Claudia and Vera came into view, I felt my gut twist. I’d expected for them to have bought a few things, but the shoes and dresses and countless jewels they showed off had to add up to at least a few thousand dollars, if not more. While it certainly wasn’t a sum that would ordinarily concern our pack, I eyed Derek as they showed off their purchases. While I’d known he was giving them money, I was surprised to see exactly how much he seemed to be regularly providing. I wondered how much he’d taken from us, here and there, to keep them in luxury while we cluelessly smiled and approved.
