I swept my gaze over the imposing man before me. My wolf pushed forward in curiosity trying to get a better look; he was the tallest man in the room standing at 6'5" his dark blond hair worn loose past his shoulders, it's honey hue matching the tones in his neatly trimmed beard. His eyes were a deep blue and though they were currently staring at me with a no-nonsense kind of gaze they ultimately did not seem the eyes of a cruel man. Still I was never one to be deceived by a pretty face and my body tensed as he spoke.
The alpha paused looking over my defiant posture and the hint of a smirk pulled at his mouth, "Let's start with something easy. What is your name and previous pack affiliation, pup?" His voice was deep and gravelly and in different circumstances it would have been knee weakenly sexy; I scoffed at the belittlement but remained quiet. He raised a dark brow at my lack of response, "I asked you a question boy, I suggest you answer it."
I would have laughed if it weren't for the relief that flooded my system, my tattoo was doing its job. This was the first time it's magic had been put under such close scrutiny and it was holding up beautifully. I stared at him in stone silence, as one of the observers, Erik I believe it was, chimed in from the corridor, "We don't want to hurt you kid, just tell us your name and previous pack and we will get you some food and fresh clothes." His voice was equally as deep but far smoother than Ulrick's who was slowly inching closer to me. The growl rattled in my chest again and my body coiled for an attack.
The other man in the hallway sighed and shook his head, Gunnar, spoke "maybe he's too far gone? Maybe Ella was wrong?" My head snapped to the new voice, I kept mine low and soft "is the pup ok? They didn't hurt her, did they?" The two men in the corridor smirked and looked at each other then back to me, the viking in the cell with me spoke "She's fine, physically at least, thanks to you" I tried to back up more, eying him suspiciously as he continued to creep forward; now almost in reach of me.
I felt cornered… I was cornered, my body was tense and the Alpha in front of me knew it. My wolf pushed forward again flooding my body with her speed and strength feeling the imminent threat and I couldn't agree more with her response. He was testing to see how feral I was in all likelihood. "So we know you can talk, so I'm going to ask you one last time, what is your name and what pack were you born to?" I couldn't help the snort this time before I responded, voice still calm and quiet but unable to help the contempt that laced my words "sorry my mama told me never talk to strangers."
All three men laughed and looked at each other a moment before the alpha sprang at me, his hand went for my throat and I'm sure against most shifters he would have had it. unfortunately for him I had been ready, my wolf had been ready so instead all he caught was a wall as I grabbed his oncoming wrist and yanked using his own momentum to sling him forward before I spun around him as he went stumbling past. The cell door slammed shut leaving me and the reincarnation of Thor circling each other.
He smirked "You're a quick one aren't you pup? I applaud the effort but do you really think you can win? You're locked in here with me." I couldn't help but chuckle, my eyes narrowing as I watched his movements, a boyish grin on my lips. I was in many ways much safer as a boy, they'd be more likely to just flat out kill me than abuse and breed me at least. "Am I locked in here with you though, Alpha?" My head tilted to the side, my wolf coming fully to the surface to peer out at the man in front of us; sizing him up. My eyes flashing crimson before she receded again as I spoke, "Or are you locked in here with me?" The two shifters outside the cell busted out laughing "damn Ulrick, how the f*ck does that boy move so fast with balls that big?"
I glanced at the one speaking and rolled my eyes then moved my gaze back to Ulrick whom I was locked in an orbit with. He was edging closer again and I growled out a warning which only seemed to make him more amused. His eyes glazed for a moment as he probably mindlinked, the primary way wolves could silently communicate with other pack members via a form of telepathy, his two lackeys receiving his orders in their thoughts.
Sure enough the cell door opened again drawing my attention as the other two viking looking men joined us and I was forced to stop my movements. I swallowed hard, an action that didn't go unnoticed by the men. They started to advance towards me, and instead of backing up I sunk into a fighting stance wincing slightly at the pull in my wounded shoulder. If they were going to take me down I'd not be going without a fight.
I let control of my wolf go, she sprang forward a deep growl heralding my shift as my bones began to snap and change but something was wrong, very wrong. My whole body convulsed in pain like liquid fire was pumping through every vein, I was nearly fully shifted when it was like time instantly reversed sucking my wolf back into me until my tortured howl became a scream of pure agony. I laid curled in a fetal position on the cold stone floor trembling and panting. "W...what did you do to my wolf?!"
