Chapter 26: Memory

I'm lost in the forest. There's a voice calling out to me, but I don't recognize it. I can hear my father calling my name, too, but his isn't the voice that I'm following. Mother told me not to play in the woods in my new party dress, but someone is calling my name. The voice is soft and whispery and it sounds like singing. The further I go into the trees, the clearer the voice becomes. Father's voice is loud and clear. I pause on the path and look over my shoulder. I'm going to get into trouble if I don't turn around and go home. I cry out and turn my head when the voice comes again. It sounded like it was right in my ear.
