Now that the world was rapidly darkening, Audrey went to the window again, thinking that she might be able to see a light from another house, something she wouldn’t have been able to detect while the sun was still up. But no, an unrelieved darkness met her eyes, telling her she was utterly alone here. The door to the bedroom opened with a faint squeak, and she startled. All right, she wasn’t quite as alone as she would have liked.
