“They work,” he choked, spitting the salty taste of seawater from his mouth. “You had us worried,” Acha scolded as Daniel shuffled further from the edge. “Sorry, I got snagged.” He gestured towards his torn trousers. He had been convinced the charms would have failed, so much so he knew if not for being trapped he never would have taken a breath. As the water had filled his lungs he had expected to drown, yet his body instinctively seemed to know what was required. He had panted for breath uncontrollably, the water flowing in and out of his lungs and somehow satisfying his body's needs.
