Karl had taken that time to go to the bathroom and relieve himself. He had been dealing with a full bladder since halfway through interviewing Helen Iqbal. And he needed a moment to collect himself. Which he did as he stood over the basin, splashing water on his face.
Deepan had had s*x with Zafar? Karl had not expected that. He had had no idea that Zafar had slept with men. And certainly not with Deepan. Neither of them had given any indication that they were merely more than classmates. Both had kept incredibly quiet about it.
