Stephanie woke up suddenly…
A gasp escaped her before her eyes were fully open, as if an unknown fear had pulled her violently out of sleep. It took her only two seconds to realize where she was… and one more to understand she was not alone.
He was sleeping beside her.
She screamed.
She moved back quickly to the edge of the bed, her breathing turning frantic as she stared at him like he was a nightmare that had come to life.
He opened his eyes slowly, without panic.
“Calm down… I didn’t do anything.”
His words were cold. Steady. As if her scream meant nothing.
Before she could respond, a soft knock came from the door… then three maids entered carrying food. They moved in complete silence, their heads lowered, eyes fixed on the floor.
None of them looked at Stephanie.
None of them dared.
They only knew that the woman inside the Alpha’s chamber was with him… and nothing more.
And that was enough.
They placed the food quietly on the table, then Arlin gestured with his hand without even looking at them.
They left immediately.
Silence fell.
He sat at the table as if everything was completely normal.
“Sit.”
She didn’t move.
“Eat.”
She shook her head violently.
“I want to go back to my family.”
He looked at her.
“They are not your real family.”
She froze.
Then let out a shocked laugh.
“You’re insane… you kidnap me and now you question my family? You are truly a rude man.”
His voice lowered, but became more dangerous.
“Avery… I will warn you for the last time not to raise your voice.”
She blinked in confusion.
“Who…?”
“Avery.”
She shook her head.
“My name is Stephanie.”
He stared at her calmly.
“Your real name is Avery.”
Her breathing quickened.
“That’s nonsense… I’ve never heard that name in my life.”
“And it won’t be the last time you hear it.”
He stood slowly.
“Here… no one will dare call you anything else. Your old name… forget it. You won’t need it anymore.”
Before she could reply…
Another knock came.
One of the guards entered, head lowered.
“A message for the Alpha.”
Arlin opened it.
Read it silently.
Then glanced at her from the corner of his eye.
“It seems they started looking for you quickly… looks like your relationship with them was good.”
Her heart trembled.
He turned to the guard.
“Tell the sender that the Alpha himself has taken the girl… and as long as the Alpha has taken her, no one is to ask about her again.”
Time stopped.
Before she could even process how they reached him… how they wrote… how they tried to save her…
Everything was already over.
“Wait!”
She spoke quickly.
“I want to read it… at least tell me what they wrote…”
“It doesn’t matter.”
“It matters to me!”
She looked into his eyes…
And instantly stepped back.
The dark blue in them was glowing.
She lost the will to argue.
She suddenly moved, trying to run.
She didn’t even complete the first step.
He caught her before she actually moved — as if he saw her intention before it happened.
Moments later…
She was on the floor.
Shocked.
Silent.
Pain throbbing along her cheek.
She didn’t try to argue again.
Didn’t try to escape.
But her eyes… were full of refusal.
And that was enough.
His voice came cold:
“You refused food twice.”
He pulled the chains and fixed them, restraining her near the wall… in front of the bed.
“One week without food… or water.”
Her body trembled.
“Until you learn respect.”
Then he left.
Simply.
As if she wasn’t crying behind him, whispering:
“I want my mother…”
But he didn’t turn back.
He had his duties as Alpha to attend to.
...............
Six hours later…
The reply arrived.
The same guard who helped them before stood before the family.
His face tense.
“The Alpha says… he himself has taken the girl.”
Everyone froze.
“…and that no one is to ask about her again.”
Carli collapsed to the ground.
She began crying again… but this time without hope.
Leo didn’t speak.
Neither did the father…
Or the mother…
Even Ian…
Couldn’t believe it.
The one they asked for help…
Was the kidnapper.
The judge…
And the enemy.
“No… this can’t be…”
The mother whispered.
But the truth was harsher.
He told them not to ask about her again…
Because she would not return.
Carli finally lifted her head, tears filling her eyes.
“I will see her… somehow.”
There was no fear left now.
Only determination.
...............
She didn’t give up.
Hours after he left…
The pain began to fade, but the despair did not.
The chains weighed heavily on her wrists, pressing into her skin until she felt her very pulse trapped inside the metal.
She pulled her hand.
Once…
Again…
A third time…
Each attempt hurt more than the one before.
But she didn’t stop.
It wasn’t the pain that hurt the most… it was the thought.
Of staying here.
Alone.
Bound.
Without food… without water…
Without anyone.
Time passed — she didn’t know how long — until she heard footsteps.
Her head shot up.
Servants.
Two maids entered… then a third.
Their heads were lowered… their eyes fixed on the floor.
As if she didn’t exist.
“Please…”
Her voice came out weak, but filled with pleading.
They didn’t raise their eyes.
“Undo this… just a little… I need to move…”
Silence.
One of them stepped closer to adjust something in the room, but did not approach her.
“Please… I won’t tell anyone…”
No response.
“At least… look at me…”
But none of them did.
Not even a glance.
As if there were an invisible barrier preventing them.
As if looking at her… was a crime.
One of them stepped forward slightly — and hope sparked inside Stephanie.
But she stopped before reaching her.
She bowed her head even lower.
Then whispered very softly, barely audible:
“The orders are clear… we must not look… we must not speak…”
Then she stepped back.
Stephanie’s heart dropped.
“I’m… human…”
But the words came out weightless.
Meaningless.
They finished their task quickly.
And left.
The same way they entered.
Silently.
Without a single one looking at her.
Without a single hand helping her.
She was alone again.
But this time…
The silence was harsher than the chains.
Because she realized something terrifying:
She wasn’t just a prisoner…
She was invisible.
