Ember groaned softly as her eyes fluttered open. The air around her was freezing and the ground was cold around her bare feet. Every inch of her body ached, especially the back of her head. She tried to move, but pain shot through her arms and shoulders. Her hands—tied. Her wrists stung from the rough ropes digging into her skin. Slowly, even though it hurt her body, she turned her head. The dim light revealed stone walls, like an old basement. She was trapped. Her heart pounded harder. “Naomi?” She whispered to her wolf. “What happened? Where are we?” But Naomi didn’t answer. Ember could sense her wolf was there, just confused and dazed.
