When I woke up in the morning Dylan was already gone and so was his peppermint scent.
I layed in the bed contemplating if I should even get out of bed, it was Sunday so no training and no work. I was still working with Lisa at the dinner during week.. Thanks to the moon! I didn’t mind training, I knew why I needed it, but I was sore everyday. Work then training everyday was kicking my butt! They kept saying that would go away as my body adjusted, but here we are two weeks in and I still woke up every morning feeling like my limbs were about to fall off!
Knock knock!!
Thudded the door, who would knock like that. Gosh is the police here?
“Ayla..! Are you up yet?” Asked an annoying voice.
Not her! Why would she be here especially this early?
“No. Come back later.”
She walked in anyways. She sauntered in like she was on the runway. Always she always walked like this, it had to be exhausting right?
“Good I thought you’d never wake up.” She said with a smile.
She was being too nice, she obviously had something up her sleeve.
“What do you want?”
“I just thought we’d have a girl chat.” She sat on the end of the bed and picked at the blanket smiling.
“About what?”
“You and Dylan.” She said sweetly.
I was getting increasingly worried, she was being way too nice. What was she doing?
“What about us?”
“Well I just heard that you too weren’t having s*x yet, and I-“
“What!” I nearly shouted. “That’s none of your business Veronica.” I nearly growled at her as I sat up, why was she talking to me about this. And where did she hear anything?
“We’ll I overheard Dylan complaining about it-“
“What do you mean? You heard Dylan say what exactly?” I know I shouldn’t be feeding her crazy, but I wanted to how he complained, she could be twisting his words.
“I just think you need to step it up, Dylan is a physical kind of guy. If you want to keep him you should just-“ She was running her finger through her hair completely satisfied with herself.
I wanted to claw her face off, her stupid werewolf genes would probably grow her a new one.
“Just shut up Veronica. I don’t care what you think.” I said falling back into the mattress.
“I’m trying to be helpful.” She said suddenly stiffening up like she was offended.
“Like how... forcing me to sleep with Dylan? I don’t understand you Veronica, are you hoping it’s so horrible he changes his mind or what?” I realized how loud I was yelling after seeing pure shock on her face. She’d gone pale, great the whole house just heard that. Even without trying they could hear someone yelling through the walls easily.
“Just thought you should know. If he’s telling people, then it must be bothering him a lot.” She said almost sheepishly. Her shoulders were slumped and she was staring at the ground, something I’d never seen before. She got up and quickly walked out of the room.
“That was so weird!” I said out loud.
I decided I needed to talk to Dylan, if he thought I was waiting too long wouldn’t he have said something, he never complained to me? I thought he understood why I wanted to wait? I threw on a pair of jeans and a white tank top, then hurried out into the hall. Maybe he was in his office.
At the door I could here him talking to someone about a meeting, he said he’d be there soon then everything was quiet. Great. Perfect timing, I opened the door and Dylan looked up from his desk.
“Is something wrong?” He asked.
“I just-“
“Maybe I should come back later.” Said a woman in a bright red suit.
I turned around quickly not realizing there was someone in the room with him. I’d never seen her before, she had dark brown hair and strange emerald like eyes. I was dazed for way too long, I just stared at her standing there in the corner next to the window. She was frowning ever so slightly, I had disturbed some meeting obviously.
“Sorry I thought you were just on the phone.” I said looking back at Dylan. This was embarrassing..
“This is the Luna of our closest neighboring pack Shiri.. Shiri this is Ayla.”
“It’s nice to meet you Ayla.” Said Shiri with a fake smile.
“I’m sorry we can talk later.” I said to Dylan, without waiting for a response I rushed back out of the room. Why was he having meetings on a Sunday? He could have just told me, so I didn’t look like an i***t. Even here I couldn’t seem to stay out of everyone’s way. I needed some air, I was going for a walk.
At first I was just going to walk to the end of the road, but I didn’t feel any better. I needed someone to talk to, hopefully Lisa was home. She was kinda mad at me for just up and moving in with Dylan. She didn’t understand, she thought we were moving too fast. But she wasn’t a werewolf, she didn’t understand the bonds mates have. From the moment I’d woke up in the woods two weeks ago I needed to be near him. I still didn’t trust him and I could feel some deep anger from Sapphira still sometimes, but I still felt the need to be near him. It was a strange and almost debilitating feeling. Maybe it was just harder for me because of my wolf.
When I looked up again I was surprised to find myself already looking at the brick building that had been my short lived but very first home. How long had I been walking? Did I run and not realize it? I shook my head and crossed the quiet street, then started up the green painted steps to Lisa’s second story apartment. I reached for the door handle then stopped, wait... Should I knock since I don’t actually live here anymore?
Knock, knock, knock!
I knock three times quickly then waited, at first there was no sound but then I heard a chair against the floor. She must be sitting at the dining table, I used to cringe every time the chairs scraped across those old wood floors.
“Who is it?” She called. I could see her shadow underneath the door already, she was always really cautious about opening her door when someone knocked.
“It’s me Ayla.” I said replied. I heard her locks as they clicked, there were two chains and the deadbolt for some reason. Lisa was a funny girl sometimes, I missed it here.
