The Devil Himself..

1124 Words
As I walked in the door I was both excited and terrified. I could hear my own heartbeat blaring into my ears. This was the first day of my new life, I needed to make this work. I was excited to start this new chapter in my life, but terrified I was going to fail. I was good at failing. Failing, tripping, dropping, and of course making people upset with me was my calling apparently.. Lisa nudged me forward towards the kitchen, I could see the back of a man's head as he cooked on a griddle. We both walked into the kitchen just as he began cracking eggs two at a time. He was whistling something familiar, but I wasn't sure what it was. Lisa handed me a pale blue apron that matched the painted brick outside. The short, wide fellow before us was maybe 5'2" and at least three hundred pounds. Was he going to yell at us for arriving with just one minute to spare? "Just in time girls, try to get here a bit earlier tomorrow okay?" He said with a smile and a wink, before turning his attention back to the griddle. The eggs smelled amazing, I didn't even really like eggs, but I was starving. Lisa grabbed a couple of notepads and pens then handed me mine. I stared down at the lines wondering if I could really do this. Was I going to know what to say when customers showed up? I had barely ever spoken to anyone in the group home, just Lisa. What if I panicked and freaked out at the first customer? I tried to take a deep breathe, but my chest felt heavy. I choked instead, then coughed while Lisa giggled. "It'll be fine, just ask them what they want to eat. It's that simple." She smiled then smoothed down her apron so there weren't any wrinkles. "I know. I'll be fine. Thanks." I replied. Just as we walked out of the kitchen, a group of guys were walking through the front door. Before I even looked up I could feel his eyes on me. There right in front of me were the same pair of devilish eyes from my nightmares. His hair was a bit lighter and styled differently, but it was him, I was sure. He smiled quickly before turning towards his group of friends as they all took a seat at a corner booth together. "Whatever you do, don't start drooling, that would be weird." Whispered Lisa with a twinkle in her eye as she walked over to their table. I just stood there, not knowing what to do. I decided to stare at the floor. Was I losing it? He was identical to the man that murdered my father before I was born! He didn't look much older than me, but he looked JUST like him! "Hey new girl!" Yelled one of the guys sitting across from the devil. My eyes snapped up and found the guy who'd called me. He was smiling oh so sweetly and motioning for me to come over. I looked at Lisa who seemed slightly annoyed, but she was smiling too. I walked over slowly, being careful not to trip and smash my face in front of these guys. There were four of them counting the devil too. The one sitting closest to Lisa had black hair, brown eyes, and olive toned skin. The two sitting by the window looked like identical twins, both had orange hair and grey colored eyes. Then there was HIM, I didn't look at him, just the one who had spoken before. "These guys are regulars, they just wanted to meet you." Explained Lisa rolling her eyes. I looked at her then back at the black haired guy, I know I was blushing, I could feel it. It was delayed by my shock I think, but I could smell unique scent on each one of them. They smelled woodsy, like earth, and grass. One of them smelled like peppermint too, i hope that was just really strong tooth paste. I knew it wasn't, they were all werewolves like me! "So my friend here says you look familiar? You from around here cutie?" The devil looked up at me for just a second then looked away again quickly. I couldn't speak, it was really happening, I was going to clam up and choke! He looked up at me again and frowned this time, I looked at Lisa for help.. "She's not from here and it's her first day so give her a break guys. No outrageous flirting, just order your food." She saved the day, I turned and ran to the bathroom to splash water on my face. A few minutes later Lisa came looking for me. "Come on you can't hide in here. More people are showing up.." "But I feel like I'm going to pass out!" I said dramatically as I huffed out a few breaths. "You always get like this when strangers talk to you. You can just bring out their food and I'll take their orders for today." She said squeezing my shoulders and rolling her eyes too I'm sure. "Okay." I nearly whispered. We walked back out of the bathroom and into the kitchen, already four plates of food was waiting on me. Each plates contained a little bit of it all, a pancake, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and a slice of buttered toast. I carefully loaded the plates onto a large black plastic try then walked carefully back to the dining room. I looked only at my tray until I reached the table, then I tried to only look at the table. I sat the plates down one by one in front of each guy. "Thanks beautiful." Said the black haired one. I swear I'd heard a low growl from the devil, he had his face in his plate already though. Maybe it was just my stomach. I stepped back thinking about running and hiding in the bathroom again, but I knew I couldn't. "D-do you need anything else guys?" I asked nervously. "Just your cell number if you're willing.." "Enough Alex!" Said the devil in a low, irritated voice. "Okay, okay... I was just messing around jeez Dylan..." Said Alex, he looked up with puppy eyes, I actually felt bad for him. Feeling awkward I just walked away, Lisa had another order in the kitchen. I could smell the plates full of maple covered pancakes an elderly couple had ordered. It wasn't until i was placing the old couples plates down that i realized he had called him Dylan... That was the devil's name! His name was Dylan, it had to be him...
