The Rogue...

The beast stared coldly at me from across the parking lot. “Noooooo!” I let out a low moan and pressed my hands to my mouth. My heart thudded. The scene faded in and out of focus as everything fell silent. Lisa’s screams just stopped. And then I heard a howl. And a rustling from behind me. I couldn’t look away from Lisa’s crumpled body. I was trying to see if she was still breathing. It was getting darker, but I think I could see her moving. “I’m going to kill you Rogue!” Snarled a familiar deep voice. It was the same sentence I’d heard so many times in my dreams... I knew it was Dylan, he was here to save us! He shifted into his wolf and leaped over me going straight towards the beast. They clashed into one another both making terrifying sounds. There were growls, snarls, and snaps coming from both. Dylan’s huge wolf was just as big as the wolf beast when he stood on his hind legs. He lunged at the beasts throat and pulled him down to the ground. The beasts face was already dripping with blood. They rolled around for a second. I held my breath waiting for Dylan to regain the upper hand. He was pinned under the beast for a second, then slamming him into a tree the next. I turned my attention back to Lisa as Dylan fought and dragged the beast off into the nearby woods. I could still hear them fighting, they hadn’t gone very far. “Lisa!” I cried as I ran to her. She was bitten near her collar bone, the blood had already soaked her entire top. I knelt beside her and swept her wet hair from her face. There didn’t seemed to be any other injuries at least. Her eyes fluttered up at me, but closed again quickly. If my werewolf sense didn’t give me super hearing I’d believed her dead right then. Her face was pale, she didn’t look like she was breathing anymore. I listened near her chest for a heartbeat. It was slow but still beating! Suddenly a long mournful howl burst through the trees! Now so was afraid for Dylan, was he okay? They had gone into the trees out of my sight. It was quickly becoming night, I searched the tree line for some kind of movement. Dylan’s wolf broke through the brushes and stood there watching me. He seemed to be waiting for something, I looked back down at Lisa. If I moved her I could hurt her more, I needed to call for help. Just as I’d thought it a large van came speeding around the diner. Wolves were coming from everywhere, at least a dozen had surrounded us. An older woman I recognized from Dylan’s pack jumped from the driver side and ran over to Lisa. “She’s going to need blood. Erica bring  the gurney!” She yelled looking back at the van. A younger very similar looking  girl was pulling the back doors open. She had short blond hair that just barely reached her shoulders. I’d met her once, we didn’t talk though. They gently lifted Lisa’s body into the van and then left swiftly without a work to me. Where were they taking her? No one even asked if I wanted to stay with her? Dylan came up to me wearing on a pair of jogging pants someone must have given him.  “Come on.” He said gently. He nudged me towards his beta who was standing next to a red car. It seemed like every single wolf from his pack was here. Most  were  in wolf form so I wasn’t sure who was who, but they were all going in and out of the trees. Did they kill the strange werewolf beast? What would they do with the body? I had so many questions! “Where are they taking Lisa?” I sobbed, I didn’t want to cry in front of them but the reality of this whole night was just too much! “Calm down. She will be fine, you will see.” We drove towards the pack lands in silence. Their silence made me uncomfortable, something was happening. Something was wrong. There was something they weren’t telling me. I am sure of it. It was hard not to continue crying, my eyes felt like they should be bulging out from my head. The beta Alex took us to down a path I’d never followed. It went behind the main house near another small lake. It was a white cement block type of building with bright red double doors. I didn’t see the van or any sign stating this was a clinic or hospital. There were two tall and buff looking guys standing on either side of the red doors.  They didn’t even look at us they stayed perfectly still watching the tree lines around us.  Guards. Guards? Why were there guards here? “Come. This way.” Said Dylan quietly. We walked through tunnels that went underground, I could tell because the long hall went down like a ramp. Went we right again. And again. Finally there was a gate. Another guard stood up and unlocked that gate with out a word. He need give a look after glancing at me just for a split second. Dylan gently pushed me forward. We walked past a few doors, he stopped at room B-104. I walked in slowly afraid of what I would see, but to my surprise it was Lisa!  She was sitting up on the hospital bed with her legs crossed. She was smiling! She looked fine, almost like nothing had happened. No sign that she was just nearly ripped apart by some rabid seven foot tall werewolf... “Ayla!” She shouted. I was almost to shocked to respond. I stepped forward and hugged my best friend. “I was so scared for you!” “I’m fine, are you alright?” “Of course, but I’m not the one who just had a hole in my neck!” I gasped pointing at her collar bone. It looked like there was barely anything there. The bandage was small, maybe the size of my hand. It had looked so much worse back at the diner! She just smiled and looked over my shoulder at Dylan. I looked at them both, they stared in silence then Lisa shook her head like she was agreeing with something. “Is there something I need to know! Why is everyone acting so mysterious?” I demanded. “Ayla.” I need to come clean about something said Lisa quietly. I stared at her for a second and then looked at Dylan, he winked and then turned to leave. There was something they weren’t telling me and it involved Lisa! Lisa? I’d known her since I was fifteen? I didn’t think we had any secrets, other than me being a werewolf. “Ayla I’m a werewolf like you.” “But... I can’t smell you?” I stated confused. “I used a special spray to mask my scent. You’ve probably picked it up and just didn’t recognize it as my scent. I’ve been told it makes me smell like syrup!” She was sitting straight up and smiling in such a way.  I felt kind of dizzy and nauseous... Why did she hide this from me?  “Why? Why were you hiding from me? I thought we were friends!” I was angry and had nearly shouted the questions at her. I didn’t mean to, I just couldn’t believe my best friend was like me! All the times I wished I’d known someone like myself, life of a teenage werewolf wasn’t easy, it was hard hiding from everyone I knew...
