Chapter 4As soon as Mark was alone in his room, he called the Chief. He didn’t like the fact that Benny hadn’t picked up the call, and he didn’t like what had happened on the St. John’s River.
Fred was no longer in his office but driving home.
“Yes?” Fred answered.
“Mark here, Chief.”
“Good. I thought you decided to take an early retirement. What’s happening?”
“Not much except that someone almost put me out of action...”
“What? How? Who’s doing the shooting now?”
“Some guys on the second trawler.”
“When?”
“This morning, on our way back to Jaxport to return the launch.”
Fred swore. The last report from his boys was that the two trawlers were back in Nassau... Who was taking puck-shot at his men now, he wondered. “And where are you now?”
“Hilton Island.”
