Pietro’s first note to Iris had read: “Meet at 9:45 p.m. 18th March, old dead-end dirt road, west side of camp.” Second one said: “I will be waiting.” The third: “I will understand if you can’t come. Very, very danger for you.”
Enzo, Stef and Antonio secretly managed to convince Rogers to take them in to pick up a large volume of stage goods they needed. They deliberately left Pietro at the camp because the two would-be lovers couldn’t look anywhere but at each other, and they had important business to discuss with her. They wanted no blood on their friend’s hands.
They felt bad when they saw Iris craning her neck to watch for Pietro’s arrival, then felt her grave disappointment when he never appeared.
