17 Finally! 29th September, 1943 (received 20 October 1943) Darling Sunshine, I got back from my many sorties and found a slew of letters from you and half the number from Mom. Buggers kept me moving around so much, they couldn’t forward letters, so they kept my post at the base. Ah, the glamorous life of an aerial photographer. I missed you, you little imp. I sincerely apologize for not writing while I was hither and thither. I always thought “I’ll write when I get there” and it was so remote there was hardly a long drop to poop in, let alone a postal facility. Your letters bring me home and give me enormous pleasure. It sounds to me like you are soft on a someone. I know you’ll tell me when you’re ready. Though I really want to know NOW. But most importantly, I am so damned proud
