Chapter 15

1174 Words
Up until the day of the full moon, Sunni could feel the intense rush of emotion everyone warned her about. She was buzzing lightly as she skated along the road towards the packhouse, anxiety, and anticipation filling her as today was the day she’ll finally shift for the first time. Archer offered to pick her up but she declined, claiming she had a lot of pent-up energy, which she did. She felt as if something was trying to push out of her skin. She assumed that was her body telling her to shift. Sunni clenches her fists, taking a deep breath before slowing down to a stop. As much as she’d like to find the excitement in all this, she couldn’t. Not with her apparent and ever growing history with werewolves. In some other universe, or different timeline, she could see herself embracing this new side of her but current her couldn't. She knew if she ran, it wouldn't end well for her judging by the stare William held on her person when he went over important stuff. At least Archer seemed excited. She's glad at least one person could find the positive for her. She blushes slightly at the thought of the auburn haired male. Sure, he was probably just an excitable person and wanted her to feel welcomed but nonetheless, it made her feel warm and not completely alone. And if he brought butterflies to her stomach, then that's her little secret. Shaking her head, she continues on, taking in the woodsy scenery. At least she'll always have the forest and the beautiful coloring, the crisp air. She wonders what will change after the shift. She supposed she'll find out after tonight. There was a howl and she slowed down, looking to get left. She could make out a few creatures zipping through the trees and marveled at the speed. Ok, maybe she was a little excited… She reaches the gravel road that leads up to the pack house and hops off her longboard, securing it in her arms as she walks forward. With each step, it felt like her nerves were getting the best of her, causing her to scratch at the board in her hands. She counts her steps, timing each breath with every two steps, trying to calm herself down. She was so concentrated on not freaking out, she didn't notice a brown wolf trot next to her. The wolf yipped at her, causing Sunni to shriek lightly, holding her board up to defend herself before she noticed the wolf look at her with an unimpressed look. Blushing, she lowered the board and gave a weak laugh. "Guess I need to work on being focused with my surroundings, huh?" The wolf huffed as they nudged their head forward, indicating to continue walking. Sunni nods before the two walk side by side. Feeling the need to fill the silence, the curly haired teen speaks up. "So...are you someone I've met?" She asks. The wolf looks at her before nodding and Sunni beams as she peers at the wolf. It was smaller than Archer's wolf and their fur was soft looking. Their paws were blonde and there was a small blonde patch on the left of their snout. Their eyes were big and silver, as all wolves shared when shifted, but something about them made Sunni feel...studied? Like she was being judged but not in a bad way. It was actually a familiar feeling. Stopping, she turned to the wolf and stared at their face before pursing her lips lightly. Taking a page out of the book she's been reading, she leans forward and uses her new senses to take in the scent. There was the tall tale of the woody scent of a werewolf, as Noelle had explained, with a mix of orchids and rose. She frowned when she couldn't pinpoint it before taking a deep breath again and that's when something triggered her nose, causing her to turn her head and sneeze. No way she was sneezing in someone's face again. Although it did give Sunni an idea on who the wolf was as a perfume smell, though faint, managed to cling to Sunni. Turning to the wolf, she smiled shyly. "Hey..Moira?" The wolf blinked, c*****g its head before nodding, causing the curly haired teen to grin happily. "Yay! I got it right!" She punches the air before playing with the hem of her shirt. "Your wolf is very beautiful, Moira." The girl made her nervous, whether it was because she was sharp and calculating or something else, but she figured she should make nice, hoping the blonde she-wolf would consider taking pity on Sunni and teaching her the ways of the wolf. Moira preens at the compliment, pressing her side against Sunni's as they continue walking. Once they get to the house, Archer is there, leaning against the pillar. He looks up and smiles lightly before walking toward them. Sunni notes the way Moira stands up straight, her eyes never leaving Archer's figure. "You made it! I was beginning to worry you'd gotten lost, or worse." He grins, not acknowledging anything but Sunni. Sunni may be slow on a lot of things, but she doesn't miss the way Moira deflates a bit. It kind of irritated her a bit as she felt the urge to cheer up the she-wolf. She shrugs before wrapping her arms around Moira's neck, running her face against the soft fur much to all their shock. She doesn't know why she did it, but she wasn't going to stop and embarrass herself even more. "I don't think Moira here would have let me live if I bailed….Oh my God Moira, your fur is really soft!" Sunni said, burning herself in Moira's warm body, suddenly going lax. She misses the way Archer clenched his hands as he glares at Moira, jealousy in his eyes, nor the way Moira puffs up at the compliment, for once ignoring the boy whose attention she vies for in favor of the girl who unknowingly takes that attention. At the silence, Sunni pulls away, a dazed look in her eyes. "Sorry, I just suddenly had the urge to do that. Is that a wolf thing or am I just being weird?" Archer snorts, pulling the curly hair girl to him as he stares hard at Moira over Sunni's head. "Don't worry, it's a wolf thing. In fact, it's a pack thing. You're recognizing us as a pack, which is good because you're new and you see us as a safe haven." Sunni relaxed as she takes in the bit of information. "Okay, neat. Last thing I want to do is do something stupid." Moira lets out a noise that sounds like a chuckle which causes Sunni to giggle, happy that the girl seemed better. "Okay, okay, let's get you inside so we can prepare you for tonight." Archer huffs out, pulling Sunni into the packhouse. Sunni blinks before turning back to Moira, waving at the she-wolf who nods in return.
