Sunni suddenly felt small, with everyone staring at her. She sucked her head and made her way over to her locker, the heat of everyone's stare boring into the back of her head.
Did she do something?
Luckily, she made it to her locker without making a fool of herself. She opened her locker, rubbing her head at the multiple whispers that grew loud then fell silent. Plus the multitude of smells invading her nose, it was really annoying.
Maybe the adrenaline hasn't wor-
There was a tapping sound and she looks up to see Archer jogging towards her, a bright expression on his handsome face and she blushed.
He was handsome, but she didn't know why she suddenly felt nervous.
Archer stops in front of her and he looks up and down her profile as if to inspect her. She ducks her head and tucks a strand of hair behind her ear, looking at the floor. "Hey, Archer…"
He sighs in relief and smiles brightly. "Sunni, how are you feeling?"
"I'd feel better if I knew why everyone was staring at me. Did I do something?"
Archer blinks before glaring at the students and at once they all looked away and started acting as if they didn't get caught staring. Archer tsked before looking back to Sunni, a half-smile on his face. "No, you didn't do anything. I think everyone was just shocked that you of all people missed a day of school."
She grew perplexed. "That seems a little unlikely that everyone pays attention to my attendance record." She teased.
Archer tenses slightly and she wouldn't have noticed but with these new eyes, it seems she catches everything. She c***s her head. "Are you ok? You seem tense."
He pauses and looks at her in confusion and leans towards her. "Did you see the meteor shower?"
She blinks at the sudden change in subject. She looks down, wondering what she should say when she looks to the side, and sees everyone side-eyeing her and turning towards them slightly.
It was starting to piss her off
Her heartbeat picks up as she swallows the lump in her throat. She looks up and gives Archer a fake cheery smile.
"It was great! A beautiful sight as always." She turned to her locker to grab her stuff. She inwardly groaned when Archer pressed on.
"Nothing crazy happened? How are you feeling? There must have been a reason you missed school, were you sick?" He shot question after question, his eyes searching. Searching for what?
Sunni slams the locker door abruptly and the two wince at the loud noise. Sunni more visible as she holds her ear before glaring up at Archer.
"Nothing happened Archer. I feel great! I saw some rocks shooting through the sky and I went home. Do you want to know what I did for the night? Do you need to know what I ate for dinner? Huh? Are you my dad?" She growls out, anger filling her as she speaks more. And though she was the one who mentioned her dad, it made her even angrier.
It scared her. She normally wasn't like this but Archer kept asking her questions like they were close. They weren't close, not enough for him to dig for a rather personal issue.
Archer flinches and has the decency to look ashamed. "I'm sorry, I was just worried. A late night in the woods and you don't show up to school the next day? It just…sorry."
Sunni exhales as she clasped her hands together, poking her thumbs together. "No I'm sorry, I just… It's just weird, I miss one day of school and everyone's all looking at me and you asking all these questions. It's just weird and as sad as it sounds, I don't have friends here so you nagging me, it's all...weird." her face was red after her stuttery explanation.
Archer seemed kind of sad at her statement. "Are we not friends?"
"We talk in passing but that's about it…" she cringes at the bluntness before gathering her books. "I have to go."
She turns to walk before pausing. She turns and gives a weak smile. "Thanks for the concern."
She ignores the bitter smell emitting from Archer or the soft whine coming from him.

Archer felt like a hole was punched through his chest before shaking his head.
Of course, she wouldn't think they were friends, they really do just talk in passing and he frowns.
After the run, word got out about Sunni being attacked by Betty and everyone anticipated the next day, wondering what would happen.
Everyone was a bit worried when she didn't show. Later that day, Archer ran by her house and he climbed the side of the house and onto the small part of the roof, being mindful of the neighbors and peeked in her window. She was sound asleep and he felt at peace seeing her well. Hearing her slow heartbeat calmed him down and he left. Then the weekend came and went and she showed up.
Everyone was a bit confused and on edge. No one really knew her scent so they couldn't tell if the woodsy smell was her shifting, which shouldn't be happening unless she was bit by an Alpha, or if that was a part of her normal scent.
Archer didn't know either, knowing how outdoorsy she was, so he kept an eye out for any other changes.
Like her noticing his near-invisible change in posture, or her turning to someone down the hall who whispered. She even unconsciously leaned towards him when he leaned down to ask her questions.
And when she snapped at him, he pulled back. Then she holds her ear in pain at the locker slam and his eyes widen when her scent grows angry.
Then she snapped at him and he noted the slight snarl and her hair puffed up a bit, more wild, like a cat when in defense mode.
He was confused. She shouldn't be changing unless someone like his father bit her, so why was she? Was Betty secretly from an Alpha line? Did he bite her trying to get Betty?
He doesn't remember tasting any blood...
He got distracted when she mentioned them not being friends and that was all he could think about all day. He vowed to build something with her.
He would have too because she's turning and he has no idea how or why.

"The very least you could do was let me know that you were sick." Aster said as he dropped a few bags of dirt into the wheelbarrow, wiping the dust off his hands as he turned to the curly-haired girl. He tsked when he realized she wasn't listening. "Hey! Space Cadet, are you listening?"
That snapped her out of her stupor and she apologizes. "Sorry, sorry! I'm still feeling under the weather…"
Aster frowns when he notes the bitterness scent releasing from her. Surprisingly, his inner wolf whined at the change and he agreed, her normal scent was better.
But he'd never admit it.
He clears his throat. "With that being said, I'm glad you're fine. It's not often that you miss school."
She huffs with disbelief. "Is it really that noticeable that I miss a day?"
He grabs his clipboard filled with the measurements and hands it to her. "Only to those who know you. Write the report and give it to Misha so she can add it to the file."
She nods and he relaxes when her lilac scent comes back. Shaking his head, he turns away to look at some of the tools.
Sunni placed the report in her bag for safekeeping before moving to pick up a bucket, her mind elsewhere only to be brought back by a sharp pain. She sucked her teeth in pain, pulling to inspect the cut only to watch it stitch up magically. The only evidence of the small cut was the still-wet blood.
She felt as if someone poured cold water down her back and jumped when a hand clamps on her shoulder. Looking up, she sees Aster glaring down at her.
"If you're not feeling well, you could have taken the day off again. Let me see…" he trails off when he notes there's no cut. He frowns, knowing he heard a slight flesh-ripping sound.
He heard about Sunni being bit but he knows that she shouldn't be having healing abilities. He takes a quick whiff of her hair and notes the tall tale earthy scent of a wolf, different from her woodsy.
"Why are you sniffing my hair?"
He pulls back suddenly, a gut feeling digging in his stomach. "Your shampoo, it's nice?"
Sunni blanches before laughing. He was miffed, despite a small part of him enjoying the sound. "Did the Aster compliment little ol' me? Shocking!!"
He pushes away from her, his cheeks slightly pink at the teasing tone. She laughs again before leaning over. He opens his mouth to question when she inhaled, her eyes closed before pulling back.
He swallowed the lump in his throat at the slightly dazed look in her eyes before his eyes widened at the slight silver flashing in them.
"You smell nice too…"
Standing up, he immediately leaves the greenhouse.
'Oh no, this is not good.' he thinks as he jogs through the school, looking to see if he could find- there he was!
He sped up to Archer who was once again trying to reject Moira. He pitied Archer 'She really doesn't know when to quit.'
"Archer!" He calls out. The auburn-haired wolf looked relieved as he turned to Aster. Archer opens his mouth to speak but Aster cuts him off. "It's Sunni. I don't know how but it happened. She's changing."
The two blink before a serious expression takes over their face. Moira speaks first.
"Are you sure? Maybe it's the adrenaline?"
Aster rolls his eyes. "Adrenaline doesn't give you speedy healing nor do they make your eyes silver. We need to tell your dad."
Archer nods. "I will. We'll have to make arrangements, especially with the full moon layer next week."
Dread fills the three. Born werewolves have an easier connection with the moon but a human turned wolf was a different story. They'll try to fight the Moon Goddess's magic and it mostly ended in disasters.
"Do what you have to do. We need to make sure she doesn't harm anyone. She's our responsibility now." Aster said. Moira's face twisted up slightly and Archer had a, not surprisingly, determined expression.
Aster rolled his eyes again.
He really hopes their soon-to-be Alpha doesn't do anything stupid. He also thinks back to the girl he abruptly left in the greenhouse.
Maybe Archer will get his happy ending.
Aster turns to go back to the greenhouse.
