When they reached what appeared to be a front gate, Dakota took over. He leaned in toward an electronic box, pushed a button, and spoke into the microphone. “Uh, hello? Hey. You’re probably not gonna believe this, but we’ve met once before. It’s me, Dakota. I think you have a, uh, young lady in there. I’m not with the guys who attacked you. We took a few of them out, actually. Anyway, they’re all gone now, and I’m here with a friend, and we’d sure like it if you could let us in.”
He kept to his best behavior, avoiding any cursing, at least for the time being.
