The ranch was nothing like she remembered. Sure, the house at the end of a long driveway was still made of the same bricks and wood, but everything else? It looked more like a fortress than a home. In fact, it had changed so much, that she silently worried it had new occupants. The entire property of several acres seemed to be surrounded by a professionally crafted wall, nearly two stories high. Metal that shined even in the dull light. Barbed wire everywhere. Spikes, ridges, sharp rocks. Pretty much anything that prevented scaling the barrier or getting close to it was employed to protect the property.
