Chapter 002

1605 Words
~~~~~ A month had passed since Amara awoke from her coma, but the world around her felt irrevocably altered. The sterile smell of antiseptic clung to her in the hospital room, and the beeping of the machines was a constant reminder of the life she had once known. Each day dragged on like a weight pressing down on her chest, suffocating her hope. She lay in the bed, staring at the stark white ceiling, wrestling with the remnants of her shattered life. The betrayal of those she once trusted weighed heavily on her heart, and the loss of one of her babies lingered in her thoughts like a relentless nightmare. The memories of the day she had learned of her betrayal flooded her mind, raw and painful. Ronan, the man she had believed to be her mate, had used her. He had sacrificed her and their child in his desperate attempt to save Sienna, her sister, who had never shown her a shred of kindness. The chilling realization that he had chosen Sienna over her felt like ice coursing through her veins. Amara remembered the moment she had confronted them in the pack house, the glint of indifference in Ronan’s eyes as he stood beside Sienna. Their union felt like a dagger in her chest, twisting painfully as Sienna had urged her to sign the divorce papers. “Just sign them, Amara,” Sienna had said, a fake sweetness coating her words. “Ronan and I have a life to build now. You wouldn’t want to stand in the way of that, would you?” The memory of her own trembling hands signing those papers was etched into her mind. Each stroke felt like a betrayal of its own, but she refused to show weakness. Instead, she had met Sienna’s gaze with defiance, her voice low and filled with fury. “This isn’t over. I will never forgive you, and one day, you will pay for what you’ve done.” Sienna’s laughter still echoed in Amara’s ears, a haunting reminder of her sister’s treachery. Ronan had not even flinched, his attention fixated solely on Sienna, as though Amara had ceased to exist. That day, a fire ignited within her, burning away the remnants of the naive girl she once was. She was no longer the victim; she was a survivor, and she would find a way to reclaim her life. As the days in the hospital dragged on, the sterile walls felt more suffocating than ever. The whispers of the staff and the steady rhythm of medical machines served as constant reminders of her pain. She needed to escape this place, to take control of her own destiny. The thought propelled her to swing her legs over the edge of the bed, feeling the cool floor beneath her feet. But just as she gathered the strength to rise, her phone rang, breaking the silence of her room. The caller ID read "Lisa," her stepmother. Amara hesitated, memories of Lisa’s cold indifference flooding her mind. Lisa had always favored Sienna, treating Amara like an outsider in her own family. But something compelled her to answer the call. “Amara,” Lisa’s voice came through, breathless and urgent. “I need to talk to you. It’s important.” “What could you possibly want?” Amara replied, her voice flat, drained of emotion. She had no patience left for games. “It’s about your baby,” Lisa said quickly, her tone laced with urgency. Amara’s heart raced, each beat echoing in her ears. “What do you mean? What about my baby?” “One of your babies is alive,” Lisa hurriedly explained. “I know they told you the baby died, but it’s not true. One of your babies survived.” The world seemed to tilt on its axis. Hope surged through Amara like a tidal wave. “Where? Where is my baby?” “Meet me at the Moonlight Hotel,” Lisa said, urgency dripping from her words. “I’ll explain everything there.” Without hesitation, Amara jumped into action. She threw on her clothes, her heart pounding with a mix of excitement and dread. As she rushed out of the hospital, her mind was a whirlwind of emotions. Could it really be true? Could one of her babies still be alive? The drive to the Moonlight Hotel felt like an eternity. Each passing second heightened her anxiety, and her thoughts spiraled into what-ifs. What if Lisa was lying? What if her baby was truly gone? But as she pulled into the hotel parking lot, hope flared once more. She could hardly contain the mix of fear and excitement bubbling inside her. Stepping into the hotel lobby, Amara scanned the room, searching for Lisa. She spotted her near the elevators, looking more frazzled than ever. Lisa’s hands trembled as she glanced around nervously, clearly on edge. “Where is my baby?” Amara demanded as she approached her. Lisa’s eyes darted around the lobby, making sure no one was listening before she motioned for Amara to follow her to a more private area. Amara’s heart raced as they stepped into the elevator, the tension thick in the air. As the doors closed, the silence felt suffocating. “Lisa, just tell me where my baby is,” Amara urged, her voice barely above a whisper. “I’ll explain everything,” Lisa said, her voice low. “But you need to understand, this is serious.” When the elevator doors opened, Lisa led Amara down a long corridor to a room at the end. Amara felt a sense of dread wash over her as Lisa opened the door, revealing a scene that made her blood run cold. Inside the room, Melanie, Lisa’s younger daughter, sat on the bed, looking terrified. Standing over her was a man Amara didn’t recognize…a rogue, by the looks of him. His presence radiated danger, and Amara instinctively took a step back. “What is this?” Amara asked, her heart pounding in her chest. “Amara, please,” Lisa said, stepping forward. “I can tell you where your baby is, but I need something from you in return.” Amara’s heart sank. Lisa was willing to sell her out to save Melanie. The betrayal cut deeper than she thought possible. “No,” she said, shaking her head. “I’m not doing this.” “Amara, please,” Melanie cried, tears streaming down her cheeks. “I don’t want anything bad to happen to me. We need your help.” “Help you?” Amara spat, anger boiling inside her as the force pushed her to land a slap on her face. “You’re both disgusting.” The rogue stepped closer, a cruel smirk spreading across his face. “You think you can just walk away?” he sneered, his tone low and threatening. At that moment, Amara felt her wolf surge to the forefront, a fierce growl escaping her lips as she took a protective stance. “Don’t you dare touch me,” she warned, her voice steady with newfound confidence. Without another word, she turned on her heel and bolted from the room, her heart racing as she fled down the corridor. She didn’t look back, didn’t stop until she reached the safety of the elevator, pressing the button for the first floor. The anger coursing through her veins ignited a fierce determination. She would not let Lisa or the rogue dictate her life. As the elevator doors opened, she stepped out into the lobby, her mind racing. She needed to think, to regroup, to figure out her next move. She had come too far to let anyone else control her destiny. But just as she was about to push open the front doors, she collided with a solid figure. Stumbling back, she looked up to see a man standing before her. His presence was commanding, radiating strength and power. “Are you alright?” he asked, concern etched on his face. From his look…she meets his gaze, her heart pounding as she struggles to catch her breath. Something about him feels different and safe, and you instinctively know you can trust him. “Please, help me,” she whispered, her voice barely above a breath. Without hesitation, the man stepped forward, extending his hand to her. “Come with me. We need to get you out of here.” She nodded, feeling a rush of gratitude as she took his hand. Together, they step into the unknown, leaving the pain of betrayal behind them. For the first time in weeks, a flicker of hope ignites within Amara, and she almost believes that she might still find her way back to the life she once dreamed of, a life with her baby. As the two of them left the hotel, Amara knew this was just the beginning of a journey filled with challenges. But she also knows that she is no longer alone. With each step, she feels the weight of her past slowly begins to lift, replaced by the determination to fight for the only family she still has, no matter the cost. The stranger leads her down the street, and she can’t help but steal glances at him. He was tall, with dark hair and intense eyes that seemed to see right through her. There’s an air of confidence about him, and for the first time since her world crumbled, she feels a sense of safety. “Who are you? Why did you help” Amara finally managed to ask, trying to keep her voice steady.
