Chapter Two

1655 Words
"A little soon to be off work isn't Evans?" he asks her. "Hi, Mr. Holden" she groans, she hits. "You hit my car Miss Evans" he warns her. "I am so completely sorry" she rambles on. "here let me get you my insurance card out. And my driver's license. Should I call the cops? Or do you need to for the report?" she asks as she gets her wallet out of her purse. She notices that her boss was over beside the cars taking photos of the damage with his phone. "Out of all the people I could have hit! Why him?" wails Ruth as she lifts her fists up to the gods above. Not that they ever listened to her. She always had bad luck. She was the Queen of bad luck. She had to be cursed, it seemed like she was. She could never catch a break. Before long a cop joined them. She hands the cop the information. The cop looks over the damage of the two cars. Then the cop comes back over to them. ♥ •♥ •♥ "You hit his rear end and it caused a few minor scratches in the fender. He will need work on the car. He will have to contact your insurance policy to claim it" warns the cop. He hands her a ticket also. "This is ticket for pulling out and hitting Mr. Holden. Next time don't be in such a rush to get some place" warns the cop before wandering away. So now she had a ticket to pay. And she had to pay for a new paint job for her bosses car. Lovely. How was she going to be able to pay this all off? She was never going to be able to afford that. She was going to be in debt for life. She felt close to tears over this. Why did this have to happen to her? Today? Why? Mateo was still on the phone as she watched the officer leave the scene. She wanted to go home. That was all. Why would this never-ending day end? Mateo finally wanders back over to her. "It looks like your insurance will cover part of the damage. But the other half you will have to pay out of your own pocket" he warns her. "I really did not have time for all this. I have to get my car worked on now. I bought this new car and now it is ruined" he complains to her. "Mark my word I will be taking it into the shop tonight and get a rental car for now" he sighs. "I will have to pay for your car while mine has to wait. I think that is plenty fair" she snaps at him. He glares over at her. "How so? Did you forget you ditched your shift? You owe the company time and money as well. You are very in debt to me right now Miss. Evans" he warns her. ♥ •♥ •♥ They glare at one another. "I would not have been trying to leave if I had not been so tired Mr. Holden. You made me work double shifts with horrible hours" she reminds him. "that was on you" she says. "My coworker was kind enough to allow me to leave early. So, I left" "If you can't handle this job maybe you should be looking for another one" Mr. Holden has the nerve to tell her. "Maybe you could get work somewhere else" He had the nerve to tell her that after he had black balled her around town! She had been trying to work. He knew this. He really knew how to push her buttons. He was doing a damn good job of that to. That asshole was starting to get to her. She had to leave. ♥ •♥ •♥ "I am going to go. Did you need something else from me before you leave Mr. Holden?" she answers him. "No nothing else at the moment Miss. Evans. We will be in touch" he warns her. "oh, I expect you to stay longer after work tomorrow to make up for the time you missed today" he says. "you owe the company time. Otherwise I could dock it from your pay" he warns before walking away. "Errgh!" she snaps once he was in his car and away from her. "I hate that man!" she exclaims. Finally, he drove out of there. She speeds off out of there to. Heading home. Ruth was happy to get home. She had to file a claim about her car to. She would need to get her car worked on. It had a few marks on the back bumper. But it was going to take forever to get her car fixed. Right now, she had to focus on getting Mateo's car fixed before hers. That really was not fair. Ruth grabs her purse then heads into her condo once she was home. She grabs her mail and her pile of bills when she came in. She tosses out the advertisements that came. She had no use for them. Then she grabs a microwave dinner from the freezer and pops it into the microwave for dinner that night. She turns on the tv. Her cable was off. They shut if off because she was late paying the bill again. She turns on her Netflix account. Thankfully her internet was still on for the time being. Ruth flops down on her couch. And then turns on a movie. She checks her emails. Her f******k while she was waiting for her food to get done. All her worries were on Mateo. And his car. What was his next move against her? Would he try to make her work longer hours? Dock her pay? What? Maybe it would have been easier to just accept his marriage offer. Then he would get off her back! Sure, Mateo was a good looking well to do man. But he was not the love of her life. She was not in love with him. She wanted to marry for love. He could not make her love him. Did he even love her? He just wanted a trophy wife. She was not that. Ruth was sorry that she bruised his ego, but Mateo had to get over this, so that she could have her life back. He was never going to get his own way. She was not going to let him win. Get the better of her. No matter what he tried to pull on her. He was sure to pull a war with her over this whole car ordeal. She could not back down. If she did, he would win. He would have even more power over her. He had enough power over her as it was. Ruth's phone rings. It was her boss Leena. ♥ •♥ •♥ "Hi" answers Ruth. "Are you okay? Jax saw what happened in the parking lot. We were worried" she tells Ruth. "I hit Holden's car. And now I have to pay for it. Oh yes he is making me stay late after work tomorrow to" mutters Ruth. "he knows I was leaving work early" "That ass" grumbles Leena. "I feel so bad for you" Ruth hears the microwave beep. She gets up to go get her food out of it. "Yeah me to. But I will need the hours now so I can pay for his car" complains Ruth. "You have the worst luck in the world" Leena laughs. "I really do" agrees Ruth. "I mean to hit Mr. Holden as you are sneaking out of work early" snickers Leena. Ruth giggles. "I am cursed" jokes Ruth. "Maybe!" says Leena. "I better go. I see Mr. Holden walking by. I do not need him to doc my pay for talking to you. Bye" she says before hanging up the phone. ♥ •♥ •♥ Ruth gets fork then heads over to the couch. She was going to have to go to bed early. She finishes her meal then she gets out her planner. Making plans for things she was never going to have time to do. Work was her life. Mateo made sure of that. Her life was work. She did not have time for anything else. She was so not happy with her life right now. It was mainly Mateo's fault. Scratch that. It was all his fault. Ruth gets her computer out. She begins to go do a job search. She applies for a few places online. But she knew even after an interview Mateo would ruin things for her. He would never let her leave Holden Hotel's. But she had to try. She had to show Mateo that she was still looking for work. That she was still trying to leave that place. That he could not hold her down. Someday there had to be a place that would take her. A place that would keep her away from Holden Hotel. But what place would take her? There was another hotel in town that was offering work. The same thing she did now. It was across town. Sunshine Surf Rooms. Owned by Holden's hated enemy. The Ingles. Matthew Ingles was around Mateo's age. And he helped run Sunshine Surf Hotel's. She had always heard Mateo complain about them. This could be her way out. Maybe she could tell Matthew why she needed to be free of the Holden's. Maybe he would hire her. Ruth smiles as she submits her application to the Ingle's then crossed her fingers. Matthew had to help her. He was her last hope out of there. And it was nice way to burn Mateo on her way out of the Holden Hotel company. She had to get this job. Her life depended on it. • ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •• ❤︎ •
