Frowns and smiles

How would I be able to help, I mean what could I do to help him cross over? My mind was hurting from trying to answer my own questions, I just didn’t know what was real or what was right. Honestly I’m not sure I cared, curiosity had gotten the best of me when I should have been thinking about Ryan, Kylie, Josh and even Lacey. They were all in pain and scared right now and just because I wasn’t feeling it like they were does not mean I shouldn’t be with them. Thomas asked for my help, I told him I would think about it but I needed time to wrap my head around you know, ghosts are real, and he was very understanding so he left. I decided to get some rest and when I wake up it would be Friday, I figured I would get us all together and just be. I think we all need each other right now, and I also think we need to talk about what everyone knows. So with Friday morning starting I went to get breakfast at a cafe near the school, Janet isn’t at the home on Friday’s anyway and she’s the only decent cook in the house. I was sitting at a table waiting for the very rude waitress to bring me my pancakes and bacon when I heard someone say my name. “Hey Jj” Eddie is standing by my table with a huge smile on his face, and as much as I would have liked to be mad at him, I just couldn’t. I’m in no rush to tell him what I saw at that house so why was I expecting him to do the same. Don’t get me wrong I’m not letting it go, I just didn’t need the extra hassle right now, my priorities are being there for my friends and finding out what happened to Tim, even if it means talking to a dead guy. “Hey, want to join me?” I asked moving my bag from the table. Eddie took a seat opposite me, but before we had a chance to say anything else, the waitress comes over with a plate of eggs, bacon and sausage, not what I ordered. However she didn’t give it to me, she placed it in front of Eddie with a coffee. In a very seductive tone she whispered, “there you go handsome, you know I can get you your own table.” She looked at me through the corner of her eyes. Before she could say anything else I asked, “he got here after me, do you know where my food is or should I ask the manager?” Turning to me she said, “yours is taking longer, it should be here soon, wouldn’t want you to be late for school.” Really? I mean come on, what did I even do to her or is it just jealously because I’m sitting with a guy she thinks is attractive. She went to leave but Eddie stopped her when he said, “actually we’re having breakfast together so could you take this back until hers is ready too.” He didn’t wait for a reply just picked up his plate and handed it back to her. I giggled and she heard as she walked away not looking too pleased. “You didn’t have to do that.” I quietly spoke. “You’re kidding, she was being a b****h.” He sipped his coffee. I laughed, “yeah she was.” We fall into a silence for a few minutes until our food arrived. “Hey what are you doing tonight?” I asked not sure I should be doing this but here goes anyway. After eating a folk full of sausage Eddie shrugs, “nothing my uncles working I was going to do some research, umm I mean studying.” He shakes his head with a nervous laugh. “Wanna join me and friends, just eating and watching movies maybe board games.” I forgot about eating and just looked at Eddie with my full attention. He seemed nervous, I don’t think he knew what to say, or maybe he wanted to say no but didn’t want to be mean. “Will Ryan be there?” He asked looking up through his long lashes. “Look you don’t have to come if you don’t want but if your reason is Ryan find another one, Ryan is great you just don’t know him yet plus his best friend was just killed by god knows what.” Eddie puts his folk down, “your not still..” I stopped him before he could continue “no I am not going looking for trouble at that house, I don’t know what happened and I do intend to find out but right now my priority is my friends, they need me.” I finished talking and then felt a little exposed, it made a shiver run right through me. “And what do you need?” Eddie surprised me with this, “who’s looking after you making sure you’re ok?” “I don’t need anyone.” It came out a whisper and I didn’t want to talk about this anymore but I had this feeling Eddie would sort of get it, he’s got that lonely soul thing going on. “I don’t have family, as soon as I turn 18 there is nothing stopping me from taking off, besides this isn’t even close to the worst thing I’ve been through but my friends, they need someone to help them through it, you know.” Eddie nodded understanding, “ok I’m in!” He declare going back to his food. I smile, this will be fun or at the very least let us all just forget for a little while. *** School went by just like the day before, a lot of stares and funny looks but not many people actually said anything, before I knew it, the day was over and I was heading to meet Ryan outside so could walk together to Lacey’s. I had convinced Josh and Kylie to come too and then there was Eddie, I had given him the address and he said he would meet us there but I spotted him waiting at his car so I walked over. “Hey so I was thinking why meet you there, it makes more sense I just drive us there.” He smiled so big, like he was impressed with his own idea. I laughed, “you know us includes Ryan?” Shrugging Eddie walks over, “yeah I know and it’s not that I don’t like him, I don’t know him and he seems a bit much or at least he was yesterday.” “Well his best friends just died.” I defended. Eddie noded, “no I know, that’s my point, I don’t know enough about him yet to say I don’t like him so if he don’t have a problem neither do I.” I smiled, that’s good of him because Ryan was acting like an i***t yesterday. Talking of Ryan I see him walking towards us, with a frown on his face, well here we go I guess. “Hey Ryan, Eddie offered to give us a ride to Lacey.” I said looking up at Ryan. Ryan looked at Eddie and muttered a thank you before getting in the back of the car, as I reached for the handle Eddie went and swung open the front passenger door for me and I slid in. Eddie jumps in the drivers side and off we go, I have never been to laceys before so Ryan directed the way. Other than Ryan giving directions to Eddie there was very little Conversation, but at least it was calm, I had started to doubt my decision here but it was too late to turn back now. We arrived at laceys after a very short and even quieter drive, every now and then I could feel Eddie looking at me and then I could feel Ryan looking beteeen the two of us from the back seats. Turns out Lacey or her family have money, her house was huge, very modern looking and I’m almost certain there is a pool. Ryan knocked on the door and only a second passed before a man with a stiff body and formal suit answered the door. I didn’t know people today still has butlers unless you were the queen or the inventor of google. We were aloud in and Ryan spoke with the butler before he walked away. “Come on this way.” Ryan said quietly leading us toward the big staircase that lead to a huge landing with paintings and sculptures lining the walls. We stop at a set of double doors, made from thick wood, Ryan doesn’t even hesitate, just throws open the door to a big beautiful bedroom. There were pink flowers on the walls and a silver mirrored bed with matching furniture, also in the room there was two doors leading probably to a bathroom and a closet. But we went over to the sitting area because of course Lacey has a sitting area in her room, it’s that big, and there sat Lacey, Kylie and Josh. They all looked sad but different kinds of sad, Lacey was clearly still broken about Tim, Kylie looked terrified still and Josh looked concerned for Kylie. “Hi” I said as I walked over, Ryan sat down on the couch looking between me and the space next to him however I stay standing. “I hope you don’t mind Lacey, this is Eddie, he’s new around here.” Eddie waved looking a little awkward, that’s when Lacey spoke up, “make your self at home, don’t mind us we are just members of the sad and broken club.” Wow did Lacey just make a joke.. guess grief does do strange things to people. Eddie giggled a little and said thanks before sitting on the other couch. Kylie was on a bean bad with josh in a chair behind her and Lacey was in the other chair. As it was it left me in an awkward position, the only space left were next to Ryan or next to Eddie, I wanted to sit with Eddie after all I invited him and I was the only one he knew here. But Ryan was the one grieving and I needed him to know I was here for him. I decided to sit with Ryan and yes I did catch the look of disappointment on Eddie’s face but he quickly covered it. “So” Kylie starts, “what we doing?” We decided on a movie, a nice safe comedy, but most of us talked anyway, not about Tim or the house just about anything else that was not Tim or that house. Lacey had a maid, yes a maid, bring us food so we ate although I think we all notice the only one who really had much more than a few bites was Eddie, the guy was a monster when it came to food and we all had a laugh at this. Also I think it made Eddie feel more comfortable because he got very chatty after that, telling us about all the places he’s been traveling with his uncle. Both parents died a while ago and he can’t wait to finish school so he can just take off where ever he decides. Then it got quiet, for the first time that evening the silence hit and no one was in any hurry to talk about the elephant in the room. Josh stood up speaking, “so what next?” He asked then smiled like he was up to something, “pillow fight?” He suggests, but he was met with three big no’s and only two yes’. Eddie cheered and looked at me, “you know that’s three for three, we need a tie beaker.” This time I stood up, “I have a better idea.” Everyone looked in my direction and I hesitated thinking this through, then I decided screw it. “How about we have a Séance?” I smiled and I know it came off a little dark. Looking around the room no one seems completely against the idea, until Eddie finally put his plate down. “There is not a chance in hell.” His tone was lined with warning. But that’s what I wanted, that’s why I had to bring him here.
