Chapter three

Cold air parted the soft curtains, making its way into Onyx's room and onto her soft skin. Onyx mumbled in her sleep, pulling the duvet over her body and coiling into a ball. She groaned loudly when she felt the cold air penetrate her duvet. She parted her eyelids, rolling her big eyeballs before getting off her bed to turn off the air conditioner. She was bemused to find the doors to her balcony opened, her curtains swirled as cold air aroused goosebumps on her soft skin. "I thought I locked the doors." She muttered to herself. Shrugging, she grabbed the door handles and pulled the doors close. Turning around, she shrieked. He was there, sitting on a chair in her dark cold room. She couldn't see his face in the dark but those eyes, his enchanting silver eyes gleamed as the light rays from the moon shone on them...like in the movies. "Onyx." He called. "Who are you?" She asked in a threatening tone. "Relax, I'm not going to hurt you." He said in his deep, smooth yet unique voice which had a hint of authority. "I asked you a question, and how did you get in here?!" "Keep your voice down." "I'll scream if you don't tell me who you are and what you are doing here. You may be dangerous, for all I know!" He chuckled darkly " Try it, scream, it's not like they will hear you. For the record, I can be dangerous, so, throw things at me if you want. I wonder why you are still trying to hold a conversation with me when you think I'm dangerous." A slight frown spread over Onyx's forehead, and she pouted. Her palms tingled and her fingertips went cold. Indicating that nervousness is kicking in. The man signed, his voice changing from the taunting one to a calm yet worried one. " I think it's high time you left this place, you don't belong here. We need you back home, it's getting dangerous by the minute." Onyx's frown deepened, she was really confused and slightly pissed. She opened her mouth to speak but the sun's rays hit her eyes, forcing them open. She raised a brow, her forehead creasing into a frown again. She sat up, her eyes flying to the chair the strange man was sitting on. He was gone, and so was the cold and darkness of her room. Her dark room was now illuminated by the bright sun's rays and the natural light from daybreak. "I thought I was awake. How is it a dream?! I was awake, it was midnight seconds ago!" She ran her hands through her hair, super confused. ----------------------- "Maybe we should just go back home, Onyx, I'm so bored," Avan complained. Her hands were crossed over her chest, a frown plastered on her face, implying that she was not enjoying Onyx's tour at all. "Hey! This market is the best place here. How can you get bored, you are just boring". Onyx teased "Can we just go home already?" Avan whined, pouting like a baby. " A few minutes more, cutie. Plus, I need this. I've been having weird dreams lately. A little distraction will do." "You mean a little noise, this is noise, nothing fun." "Suite yourself, just don't get lost." Onyx retorted with an eye roll as they walked on. "What's with the weird dreams?" Avan asked, finally paying attention to the first part of her friend's statement. "Awww you heard that." She gave a fake surprised expression, sarcasm dripping in her voice. 'Tell me what it is already, then we get out of here." "The silver-eyed guy'" she said in exhaustion. Avan's face went from normal to plastered with a broad grin. "Why do you have that stupid grin on your face, I'm serious here" Onyx threw Avan a disapproving look. "It's becoming frequent. Did he tell you anything?" Avan's face lit up in curiosity and excitement. "Yes! He keeps telling me to go home. Go home, where?!" She tossed the straw she was holding away in frustration. "It's getting annoying. Why the same dream, the same guy and the same message all the time? I need to see something else in my dreams. It's supposed to be a dreamland with different dreams all the time, not the same dream every time." "That's..lots of words you used there," Avan said. "Maybe you should try talking to him." " I am not a lucid dreamer, Avan." "So what are you gonna do?" "Hey, you know what? Those dreams felt so real that I felt like I was living every second of the dream." Onyx stopped in her tracks when she couldn't perceive her friend's presence. She looked behind her and there she was, transfixed to a spot as if she had zoned out or something. " Hey, are you okay?" Onyx questioned, worry flashing through her eyes. "Yeah, I'm good." She replied with a small smile. "Let's go home Onyx" Avan grabbed Onyx's hand and pulled her towards the direction of their house. "Hey! Slow down, what's up?" "Let's go home. I'll explain when we get home" "Avan, stop!" Onyx snatched her hand away from Avan's grip, a puzzled expression framing her beautiful face. "What's going on, why are you in a rush, what happened?" "Let's get out of here first." "Is this about the dream?" Avan opened her mouth to speak but someone ran between them in an attempt to catch something. The person gave her a rough push, knocking her off balance. She fell hard on her butt and as Onyx attempted to help her, a cart carrying tons of loads separated them. Avan jumped to her feet, pushing past the man controlling the cart. Onyx was gone. Avan ran a hand through her hair, glancing at the spot Onyx was standing a while ago. She searched through the crowd quickly before sprinting out of the busy part to the deserted part of the market. She searched for any sign of her and, luckily, she caught a glimpse of some people dressed in black. She followed them quickly, quite aware of who they were. One of them, a man, had Onyx over his shoulder. She was unconscious as they carried her into an old abandoned slaughterhouse. Onyx regained consciousness the moment they put her on the cold dusty floor. She was confused for a while, but the moment she realized what was happening, she screamed, only to be silenced by a deafening slap. Avan's blood was boiling. She lunged forward, attacking the first person, catching them completely off guard. She hit the stone she had earlier picked up on his head, knocking him out immediately. Dodging the punch the second person threw at her, she flipped his knife out of his side pocket, burying it in his side. Her movement was swift and smooth, but she was not so lucky as the third person, who was a lady, knocked her off her feet, sending her falling on the hard, cold and dirty floor. She recovered quickly, kicking the lady's stomach to buy herself time to get off the floor. She grabbed the knife from the dead body of the man she stabbed and threw it straight at the woman, aiming for her heart. A sizzling sound could be heard as the woman dropped dead on the floor, with the poisonous knife buried in her chest. Onyx was in shock. One, for being kidn*pped and two, for witnessing her skilled best friend take down three dangerous people. Killing two of them. How does she even know how to fight?! "Are you okay?" Avan asked Onyx, helping her get off the floor. "Wh-wh- what just happened?" Onyx asked with wide eyes, visibly shaken. "Let's head home first." Onyx was about to turn around and obey her friend when something caught her eyes. Her heart beat accelerated and her mind went blank. "Avan. Why are they bleeding purple?"
