Chapter one

"Do you always have to scare away any guy that dares look at me?" "They are not worth it, Onyx. I'm just protecting my best friend because there are lots of fake guys out there, lots of them!" Avan emphasized. "If I don't search through the fake ones, how will I find a good one?" "He will come to you Onyx, just chill" Avan smirked, tapping the car steering with her fingers. "Like I'm some Disney Princess, right?" "What if you are, or more than that?" Avan giggled. Onyx rolled her eyes. " You know what, Avan? Focus on the road" Avan and Onyx had met at a restaurant some time ago. It was a very cold day. Well, it is always cold during winter. Onyx was sitting in a restaurant, her hands wrapped around a warm coffee mug. She was looking out the window, thinking about nothing in particular, until a very pretty lady walked up to her. " Can I sit with you?" The lady asked politely. The day was not going well, so Onyx grumpily told whoever it was to sit. She was planning to ignore the person until her eyes met with the lady's beautiful eyes. Bright and blue, almost like some piece of beautiful blue crystal ball had been buried in her eyeballs. "It's a cold day." The lady started with a sweet smile. "Yeah..it is. I'm Onyx." She extended her hand for a handshake and the lady accepted it, holding Onyx's cold hand with her warm one. "I'm Avan. You are really beautiful." "Thanks. I love your eyes." "Thanks" Avan beamed. Onyx initially didn't plan to talk to the stranger, but something about the stranger pulls Onyx in and gives her a weird feeling of comfort. Onyx was about to say something when she accidentally knocked Avan's purse off the table. "Oh I'm so sorry" Onyx apologized. "It's no big deal." Avan was trying to reach for her purse when the tiny exposed nail on the table pricked her soft cheek, causing her to bleed. Avan winced and cursed under her breath. "Are you okay? Hold on." Onyx quickly reached for her handkerchief to wipe off the blood but was awestruck when she saw purple blood oozing from her cheek. "Your blood.." She gasped. "Don't mind me, I'm so clumsy. Oh, my blood is nothing. Some people just have purple blood, feel comfortable." "My blood is purple too!" She confessed happily, not sure why she told Avan the secret she never told anyone. Is it because she felt excited seeing someone with the same blood colour as hers or is it because Avan gives her a weird feeling of comfort? "Oh wow! That's surprising" Compared to what she said, Avan didn't look surprised at all. At least not with a smirk on her face. "Can we be friends?" Onyx asked. "We already are" Avan replied, taking her cup to her lips to hide the smirk on her face while maintaining eye contact with the beaming Onyx. Onyx smiled to herself after recalling how they became friends. Well, that was three years ago and now, they are driving back home after the break they had in school. She stole a glance at Avan who was busy driving and nodding her head to the beats of the music playing on the car radio. "We are here," Avan announced happily as she brought the car to a halt. She alighted and threw the key at one of the family drivers.
