~Aria~
A hand grabbed me.
Completely out of nowhere.
Like I was in some reverse motion film, I saw my body pulled up.
And with the accompanied force, I slammed into a wall.
Or maybe not a wall.
Because this wall had a scent.
Musky scent that made my insides tingle.
One that stirred my wolf to life.
“Damon.”
My heart flipped.
But then I remember I was late and he'd be furious.
“I'm sorry…I didn't mean to be late. It's just…I got delayed by something else I couldn't control and–”
“Do you go around sticking your nose in everyone's problems?” He growled.
What?
And no, it wasn't a question.
Wait!
He saw me helping Lisa??
Slowly, I stared up expecting his scowling face.
But his face is…oh my goddess. Soft…calm…striking features gawked at me. No, it was the other way around.
Then his throat moved, as though he was affected by my presence. He looked away, his jaw locking.
Suddenly his face instantly changed and became rock hard.
“You should learn to mind your business. Not everyone is as they seem and even the most innocent looking and young member of the pack could be dangerous,” he paused and stepped away from me.
His face hardened more as he stared hard at me. “The pack affairs are mine and mine alone to bear. You becoming Luna won't ever change that. You are just a Luna by title and nothing more. Remember that.”
Was he worried about me or was he just plain scolding me?
I sighed.
Well, at least he didn't threaten to stop the wedding this time.
There was a tap on the door and the attendant I saw earlier entered. But not alone.
With her was a man I could instantly tell to be the pack tailor.
“I'll take your measurements now, my Alpha. My Luna,” he informed.
“This way, please,” the attendant pointed to the measuring stand.
Damon wasted no time taking his position in the stand. His face was rigid and his eyes, straight and firm.
I knew he would make sure to never look at me and so I took the pleasure to stare at him.
Even though he was two years older than when I first met him, he was still as handsome as ever. His eyebrows were still thick and bushy and his jaw still chiseled. He still locked it when he was trying hard to not reveal his inner feelings. Just as he did a few minutes ago.
A small smile crept up my lips as I reminisced of that day.
But then the voices reared up.
“You will never be accepted as my wife or Luna!!”
A bitter bile rose in my chest as his voice echoed in my head, reminding me that the boy I met two years ago was no more.
What changed him so much?
“My Luna?”
I jolted at the attendant's touch.
“Oh sorry,” I mumbled, realizing I hadn't stood on the measuring stand yet.
The pack tailor attended to Damon first before he came to me.
I first flinched when he raised his tape.
“I'll be gentle, my Luna,” he muttered with a smile.
But all I saw was my offenders from two years back.
With their cruel crooked smile that burned my insides while I was helplessly tied to a bed frame to be molested.
My body boiled and my wolf roared in my frame.
Those words.
Those damn words!
I didn't want to ever hear it again.
“Stay calm, wolf. He's just a tailor. He won’t hurt us,” I whispered to my wolf.
I tightened my body, curled my fingers and slammed my eyes shut.
The pack tailor placed his tape across my chest and was about to adjust the tape when a voice sounded.
“Let your attendant take the measurements.”
My eyes opened at the voice.
Damon.
“Take her measurements,” he ordered the female attendant.
As the pack tailor stepped aside, a breath shouldered out of me. I stared at Damon, the butterflies in my stomach stirring awake.
Why does he keep pretending not to remember me yet he still remembered I had trauma from that day and was protecting me?
“She's riding with me. Take the car back home,” he ordered my driver when we were to return home.
I was too speechless to utter a single word as my legs made their way into his car.
He kept his eyes on the road as he drove. But it didn't stop the feelings stirring in my chest.
I desperately wanted to speak to him now that we were alone.
But I was scared I would ruin the moment.
I just wanted to keep this peace within us. I just wanted to keep feeling this way. Beside him. Alone with him.
As we walked side by side quietly into the mansion. It was the most amazing walk since I came to this pack and into this house.
Until the devil appeared.
“Honey, you are back!” Bertha squealed and jumped into Damon's arms.
“I missed you so much!” She purred, squashing herself closer to him.
“I wasn't gone for that long,” Damon responded as he led her inside his chamber.
My wolf growled violently in my frame.
I clenched my fist and imagined several times smashing Bertha’s head on the wall right after telling Damon how he was a jerk…but I couldn't bring myself to do it.
I could never bring myself to hate Damon.
I owed my life to him.
“You are back! Was the Alpha mad at you? Did he yell at you?” Beatrice charged towards me.
“He didn't, but now I wished he had.”
Then I would have at least hated him with my full chest.
“What does that mean?” Beatrice asked, frowning.
I dragged in a breath sticking to keep my feelings locked.
“Well, I've got news. Not really news but a calling for you,” she started, blocking my way.
I frowned questioningly.
“You said you wanted to know more about the Alpha's uncle…Well, you just landed yourself a one on one meeting with him.”
“What? Did you tell him I wanted–”
“I'm not stupid. He sent for you, by himself. I was surprised too. Now you will get the chance to really know what he's like. But I warn you, he's a very dangerous man.”
She whispered the last sentence.
How dangerous could he possibly be?
I shrugged and turned my attention to someone more important. “How's Lisa?”
“She's doing great. All thanks to you. I'm curious. How did you know she was asking of that teddy bear…not very often wolves get teddies as siblings–”
“I listened to her, Beatrice. And I didn't call her a liar and a crazy beggar girl,” I snapped at Beatrice.
“I'm sorry, my Luna. I should be mindful of my words,” she apologized regretfully.
I forced myself to take a breath.
What's wrong with me?
I was getting on edge suddenly.
“You don't need to be. Just be good to her now,” I said before I headed off to the receiving hall. Where the Chief elder was waiting for me.
As I was about to hold the door, I stopped.
There was something I had learned to do as soon as I realized the powers my extremely sharp senses held—sensing out potential danger and potential enemies.
Now using my senses, I tried to sense out the chief elder.
Only that the door opened immediately.
As though he already sensed me way before I arrived.
“But I warn you, he's a very dangerous man.” Beatrice’s warning echoed in my brain, freezing my bones.
