"The deepest wounds are never left by strangers. They came from the people who once promised never to hurt you."
The Broken Promise
*****
I remained on my knees in the middle of the hall.
Ten seconds felt like ten years.
The guests stared at me with amusement.
Some whispered behind their glasses.
Others openly laughed.
"The Alpha daughter has become nothing more than a servant."
"What a disgrace."
I almost pity Alpha Victor.
My fingers dug into the cold marble floor.
I wished it would split open and swallow me whole.
Then my eyes landed on Damien.
The man who was supposed to become my mate.
The man who once promised to spend the rest of his life protecting me.
He did not spare me a single glance.
Instead, his eyes remained fixed on Ashley.
She stood beside Luna Serena in a beautiful silver gown that sparkled beneath the lights.
Damien raised his glass toward her with a charming smile.
"To the most beautiful lady at the Moon Festival."
Ashley giggled and lifted her own glass. And to the future Alpha who knows how to appreciate beauty.
Their glasses touched.
The soft clink echoed inside my chest like another crack in my already broken heart.
The guests laughed and joined the toast.
Some even cheered their names.
No one remembered that I was still kneeling on the floor.
No one cared.
Alpha Victor finally looked at me.
Disgust flashed across his face.
You have embarrassed me enough.
His voice was cold.
Disappear from my sight.
I slowly pushed myself to my feet.
My knees trembled.
Not from the punishment...
But from the weight of humiliation.
Without saying a word, I lowered my head and walked out of the grand hall.
The laughter followed me all the way to the door.
The moment I stepped outside, I broke into a run.
I ran
I ran past the servants.
Past the training grounds.
Until I reached the tiny room they had given me.
I slammed the door shut behind me.
Only then did I allow the tears to fall.
The small room they gave me felt colder than usual.
A narrow bed stood in one corner. A cracked wooden table rested beneath the window. There was nothing else.
I slowly slid to the floor, wrapping my arms around my knees.
Everything that had happened at the Moon Festival replayed in her mind.
Theslap.
The laughter.
The whispers.
The shame.
I closed my eyes, hoping the memories would fade.
They did not.
A single tears rolled down my cheek.
I quickly wiped it away.
I whispered to myself.
I have cried enough.
Outside, music from the festival still echoed through the pack house. Wolves laughed, danced, and celebrated another successful Moon Festival.
No one cared that the Alpha’s own daughter sat alone in a tiny room, trying to gather the broken pieces of her heart.
Sleep finally claimed me long after midnight.
...
Warm sunlight spilled through the small window.
I slowly opened my eyes.
For a brief moment, everything felt normal.
Then reality returned.
I sat up with a sigh.
There was work waiting for me as usual.
After washing my face, i picked up a watering can and walked toward the flower garden behind the mansion.
The flowers were beautiful.
White roses.
Blue lilies.
Golden tulips.
Unlike people, flowers never laughed at them ,
They simply bloomed.
I smiled faintly as i watered the roses one by one.
The peaceful morning was suddenly interrupted by the sound of an expensive black SUV pulling into the mansion.
I looked up.
my heart skipped.
Damien.
He stepped out wearing a fitted black suit that made him look every bit the future Alpha. Two guards followed behind him.
The servants immediately lowered their heads.
Young Alpha Damien.
Kate stared quietly.
Maybe...
Maybe he had come because he regretted what happened yesterday.
Or Maybe he wants to apologize to me
A small smile appeared on my lips.
I wiped my hands on my dress and slowly walked toward him.
Before I could speak, Damien walked right past me.
It was as if I didn't exist.
The smile on my face slowly faded.
Just then, the front door opened.
Ashley hurried outside.
“Damien!”
Her face lit up with excitement.
Without caring who was watching, she threw herself into his arms.
Damien smiled warmly and wrapped an arm around her waist and they kissed.
I missed you
I missed you too, Ashley replied happily.
I froze, I couldn't place it, So it was more serious than I thought..
I stared at them.
Confused.
Shocked.
Slowly, I work closer.
“Ashley...”
Both of them turned.
Ashley quickly stepped away from Damien.
Her face filled with practiced guilt.
Oh, Sister.
I wanted to tell you.
We became friends a few months ago.
She lowered her eyes.
I know he was once your fiancé.
I am sorry.
If you don't like seeing us together, I can stay away from him.
I looked at Damien.
She waited for him to speak.
She waited for him to tell Ashley there was nothing between them.
Instead...
Damien reached for Ashley’s hand.
You are not going anywhere,
His voice was calm, but firm.
The woman I want is you, not some wolfless trash.
Damien looked straight into my eyes,
There is nothing between us anymore.
You have no wolf and you're worthless.
My pack will never accept a wolfless Luna.
So I chose Ashley as my mate.
He smiled gently at Ashley.
Ashley is different.
“She is blessed.”
“She is beautiful.”
She carries a powerful wolf.
She is worthy to stand beside me.
Ashley rested her head against his shoulder.
A shy smile spread across her lips.
“I am sorry, Sister.”
Kate heard the words.
But they sounded distant.
Her mind drifted back three years ago.
She remembered her eighteenth birthday.
Damien placed a necklace around her neck.
He held both her hands and smiled…
No woman will ever take your place,
You are the only Luna I want.
“One day I will make you the happiest woman in the werewolf kingdom.”
She believed every word.
She treasured every promise.
Now...
Those promises meant nothing.
Kate swallowed the lump in her throat.
She forced a small smile.
“It is fine.”
I wish both of you happiness.
Ashley blinked in surprise.
She expected tears.
She expected anger.
Instead, Kate simply picked up the watering hose and returned to the flowers.
Inside...
Her heart was bleeding.
Just then, another voice came from behind.
My beautiful daughter,
Kate turned.
Alpha Victor walked out with Luna Serena beside him.
His eyes landed on Ashley and Damien together.
A proud smile spread across his face.
They look perfect.
Luna Serena laughed softly.
They truly do.
She walked toward Ashley and gently held her face.
My precious girl,
“I always prayed you would find a strong Alpha.”
Ashley blushed.
“Mother...”
Victor looked at Damien with approval.
You made the right choice.
A future Alpha deserves a worthy Luna.
His words hung in the air.
I stood quietly beside the flowers.
Victor finally glanced at me.
Only for a second.
His face immediately filled with disgust.
“Some people simply do not deserve such a future.”
The servants lowered their heads.
No one dared speak.
Damien smiled proudly.
Ashley wrapped both hands around his arm.
Kate continued watering the flowers.
Drop after drop...
The water soaked the soil beneath her feet.
A soft breeze brushed across her face.
She blinked quickly before anyone noticed the tears gathering in her eyes.
She would not cry.
Not in front of them.
Not anymore.
As I turned to leave, Ashley suddenly called .
“Sister.”
I stopped walking.
Ashley smiled sweetly.
“I hope we can still be family.”
Kate looked at her for a long moment.
Then she smiled.
A quiet...
Broken smile.
I hope so too.
She walked away without looking back.
None of them noticed the elderly maid standing near the kitchen entrance.
The old woman watched me disappear around the corner before shaking her head sadly.
They keep throwing away a precious jewel...
She looked toward Ashley, Damien, and Alpha Victor.
One day...
They will regret choosing glitter over gold.
