The Beast Behind the Door ***** KATE'S POV I left my father's house as a sacrifice... never knowing fate had other plans. ***** The next morning, I woke up before sunrise. Today was the day, The Blood Moon Pack would come to take me away. I quietly packed the few things I owned. There was nothing much to take. Just a few clothes and the portrait of my mother. I held it close to my chest for a moment before placing it carefully inside my small bag. It was the only thing that still made me feel she was with me. I wore the only decent dress I had and sat quietly, waiting for them. A few hours later, my door suddenly opened. Ashley walked in with a bright smile. She looked me up and down before laughing. "Wow." So this is the dress you're wearing to meet your grave? She slowly walked around me. Well... Farewell in advance, dear sister. "What a pity." I said nothing. I did not even look at her. My mind was already made up. Seeing that I refused to react, Ashley clicked her tongue. "They're here." So shall we? She laughed as she walked out of my room. I picked up my small bag and followed behind her. Outside the mansion, several warriors from the Blood Moon Pack were already waiting. The carriage stood in the middle of the courtyard, pulled by powerful black horses. I stopped for a moment. My eyes slowly moved across the mansion. This place had never been my home. It was where I learned pain.. Rejection… Betrayal and Humiliation . Then I looked at my so-called father. Alpha Victor stood beside Luna Serena. Ashley was smiling proudly beside them. I looked at him... Then I smiled. A small smile. His brows slowly frowned. He looked confused. Maybe he expected me to cry. Maybe he expected me to beg. But I did neither. For a brief second, guilt flashed across his face. I saw it. It disappeared almost immediately when Ashley wrapped her arm around him. He looked away. Without saying another word, I walked toward the carriage. Not a single person stopped me. Not a single person wished me well. As the carriage began to move, I never looked back again. …… Several hours later... We finally arrived at the Blood Moon Pack. The first thing I noticed was how enormous the pack was. The walls were taller. The buildings looked grand. Everything looked far richer than the Silver Fang Pack. Several guards stood at the entrance. Maids lined up on both sides. A young man walked toward me. His face remained expressionless. "I am Beta Liam." "Follow me." I quietly followed him inside. He led me through several long hallways before stopping in front of a large room. He pushed the door open. "This will be your room." "You will stay here until Alpha Ryker is ready to see you." "If you need anything, call one of the maids." After saying that, he left. I slowly stepped inside. My eyes widened. The room was bigger than the Alpha's office back home. The bed looked soft. Beautiful curtains covered the windows. Fresh flowers filled the room with a sweet scent. I slowly ran my fingers across the table. Everything felt so beautiful. Soon, a maid entered carrying different kinds of food. She carefully placed everything on the table. If you need anything else, Lady Kate, please let us know. Lady Kate? Nobody had ever called me that before. After she left, I sat down and looked at the food. My eyes became watery. I had never seen so much food prepared for me alone. Slowly, I picked up a spoon. Every bite tasted better than the last. For the first time in years... I ate until I was full. I drank water and leaned back in my chair. A small smile escaped my lips. "At least..." "I enjoyed one good meal before death." Hours passed. Nobody came. Nobody called me to meet the Alpha. The mansion became quiet. I eventually lay down on the bed. My mind was already prepared for whatever awaited me. At least I had one good meal before it happened. I slowly closed my eyes, hoping to get some rest. Then... Around midnight... A terrifying sound suddenly echoed through the hallway. My eyes flew open. It sounded like someone was screaming in pain. Then came another loud growl. It was deep... Wild... And frightening. My heart began to race. I pulled the blanket over my body and squeezed my eyes shut. "It has nothing to do with me," I whispered. The sound came again. This time it was louder. It sounded as if someone was trapped inside a prison or maybe fighting for his life. I tried to ignore it. I really did. But something kept pulling me toward it. Curiosity slowly defeated my fear. What if someone is hurt? The thought refused to leave my mind. The sound continued. Louder. More painful. I could not bear it anymore. Slowly, I climbed out of bed. I quietly opened my door. The hallway was empty. I removed my shoes and began to tiptoe toward the sound. Every step made my heart beat faster. I don't want anybody to catch me. The growl echoed again. I followed it until I reached the end of the hallway. Then I turned left. A heavy iron door stood before me. Dark blood stained the entrance. My breathing stopped. Every part of me told me to run. But my feet refused to move. Something kept drawing me closer. With trembling hands... I slowly pushed the door open. The loud creak echoed through the room. The sight before me froze the blood in my veins. I should have run. Instead... I stood there, unable to move.
