The First Assignment

304 Words
Maya’s first day as Aryan Malhotra’s personal assistant was anything but ordinary. Her desk was placed right outside his office, and her phone didn't stop ringing for a second. "Maya! Bring the contract files for the Kulkarni project to my office. Now!" Aryan’s voice boomed through the intercom, cold and demanding as ever. Maya sighed, grabbed the heavy stack of files, and rushed inside. When she entered, Aryan wasn't sitting at his desk. He was standing by the large glass window, staring at the city skyline with a look of deep brooding. "Here are the files, sir," she said, placing them on his desk. Aryan didn't turn around. "You are late by two minutes. In this company, time is money. I don't pay for laziness." Maya felt a surge of irritation, but she held her tongue. "I apologize, sir. It won't happen again." Suddenly, Aryan turned around. His gaze was intense, scanning her face as if trying to solve a puzzle. He walked toward her, and Maya involuntarily took a step back until she hit the edge of the desk. "You have something," he murmured, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Something that reminds me of someone I haven't seen in years." Maya was confused. "I don't know what you're talking about, Mr. Malhotra." Before he could answer, his phone rang. It was an urgent call. His expression hardened instantly. "We'll talk later," he snapped, turning his back on her. "Leave now. And make sure the press doesn't get wind of the merger announcement tonight." Maya hurried out of the office, her heart racing. Who was the person he was talking about? And why did his touch—when he had briefly brushed past her—feel so familiar? She felt like she was stepping into a trap, but she couldn't turn back now
